Oh and Geek, since you aren't aware Gladiator is more than a rent boy of the Shiar. He's now the Emperor of the Shiar Empire. He got a promotion.

The fuck?! What happened to Lilandra?

Generally I prefer the street level characters rather than the cosmic ones. Just not a huge fan of characters with god-like powers. However, in recent years Marvel has done a really good face-lift to their cosmic characters. The Annihilation books were both very good, Guardians of the Galaxy was great while it lasted, and the Thanos Imperative was fantastic. Unfortunately I don't think the new (and only) cosmic book out there right now, The Annhilators (a cosmic Avengers made up of The Silver Surfer, Quasar, Beta Ray Bill, Ronan the Accuser, and Gladiator) is not very good. Gladiator, who was also a focus of the mediocre War of Kings and Realm of Kings seems to be poison and kills any book he's in for some reason..

I never even heard of the Annihilators. Guardians of the Galaxy, is that the one with Dr Strange, Hulk and Silver Surfer?

I have Annihilation and Thanos Imperative and war of kings I think. I'm sort of collecting them all and then trying to read them in order, starting from the 1970s Avengers Skrull War right up to now.

I just read Maximum Security.

Dangerous planet started out good but then 1-3 were downhill all the way. And I see what you mean about the SSurfer, they have pussified him.

So what's the deal with the Living Tribunal? He could just click his fingers and make the gauntlet not work?

I think Thanos is one of my favourite characters, I have the early issues, I think it was Quasar or Captain marvel. Then the Silver Surfer became his main foil.

He did a bizaare stint in Kazar, Kazar is like Marvels version of Tarzan, quite why he's facing off against Thanos in his own series is anyone's guess.

I love this bit of the Infinity Gauntlet, Thanos shatters CAmericas shield, he's beaten the hulk, thor etc and CAmerica knows that he's toast but he still stands up to him.

BTW What is the deal with US Agent? The guy acts like a moron in Maximum Security.

Lilandra was dethroned in the Uncanny X-men a couple years ago when Vulcan (aka Gabrielle Summers aka the lost 3rd Summers brother) decided to to go apeshit on the entire Shiar Empire. Long story there. You have to start with X-men: Decimation to find out who he was and what happened from there to explain all of that. After the events of that, he became the Emperor while Lilandra rejoined the Starjammers and.... well I won't spoil what happened but the events are all chronicled in the War of Kings saga.

The Annilhators are a group that sort of formed during the Thanos Imperative, after that ended they got their own mini-series which is currently going on now, and frankly is not good.

And these Guardians of the Galaxy were a different group. These were made up of a bunch of intergalactic misfits that met up doing Annhilation: Conquest. Excellent series, can't say enough good things about it.

And the Gauntlet is ultimate power. Tribunal would even fall to it.

US Agent has always been protrayed as a douchebag wannabe Cap. The only time he's been a good character was just recently in Thunderbolts where he's crippled but the warden of the Raft, the maximum security supervillain prison.

I thought that the Living tribunal ruled that the gems couldn't be used together which effectively made the gauntlet redundant?

I think I know the Guardians of the Galaxy you are talking about, the new guys. I will have to check that you. Decimation and war of kings are on my reading list.

Well I don't know about that but the gems are currently being used together in this month's issue of Avengers. That's actually one reason I don't like cosmic characters - both DC and Marvel have a hard time setting the rules and limits for them, and so much of what gets written gets ignored when the next writer picks up the character/object a few years down the road.  I guess it's just too hard to be consistant when you have a character thats near omnipotent.

How could someone called US Agent be portrayed any other way?

That's why I value the Jim Starlin run of Thanos stuff.

I'm reading the entire Grant Morrison run of JLA right now.

Did you ever like Deathlok? I liked the 90s series with Michael Collins.

Hulk killed his dad?
