YES.

GASP Mind blown

Never would have guessed a wuss like you can play such a manly sport. What went wrong?

I was a big rugby player, Captain of the team. Started off as a forward, moved to centre then moved to my final resting place as winger when the coaches realised how fast and powerful I was.

Just did the third chase section in Shattered Memories.

It's badass. You get to end finally and think ahhhhhhhhh and you start to relax. Only to find out the exit is locked and you have to go back to do stuff. Grinning

Doing that, prowling about like a cat burglar then sprinting when you get caught is a nice dynamic and within 20 minutes or so I had the layout down. It's not nearly as maze like as you first think.

Oh yeah, something strange happened. I was at the end of a puzzle and I saved. When I started I was back in the same room but the puzzle asked completely different questions which added a nice bit of replayability to the game. Happy

Alright that's it.  This madness has to stop.  We are getting new members joining, I'm happy, Leo's into a woman and now you're athletic?!  We must have accidentally done something to alter the nature of reality!

I think people who get lost must be making a left turn, then a left turn, then a left turn, which takes them around the same area in a square shape LOL

Hey, to be fair sometimes you make a left and the only choice is another left - you can't go anywhere you want.

Also what are the mementos for?

Secret, don't ask.

I hear that Shattered memories is between 5-7 hrs though. Angry Monkey took 9-10 hrs was it?

yeah, no one will take longer than me. I took my time

And the feeling of the chases is like playing a game of IT or TAG in school and having a great session where you've dodged and beaten everyone, that feeling of success at the end. I used to play rugby as a winger and if you've done that or played American football and managed to dash past a group of the opposing team all in one go and scored at the end, it's that kind of feeling at the end.

This is why I never got the complaints of some people wanting time to explore the ice areas. I mean sure that would be neat but that means the whole chase mechanic has to be scrapped. People trying to change it to a standard silent hill.

Leo, Leo, Leo. I just played a bit in Silent Hill that had me shaking. You would die playing it. Water was involed.

But after taking two lefts you dont take yet another left. LOL And people wonder why they end up at the same place!

I'm with you on the chases, I now understand how they are built and why they are seperate from the rest of the game. If you had chases happening in normal gameplay you'd sprint a zillion miles away on the map to god knows where and it would essentially either break the game or require you to backtrack endlessly and get frustrated and bored. And investigating the frozen environment is pointless as you're suppossed to be running for your life.

I'm on the fourth, chase now, maybe 5th, not sure. Inside the mall and to be honest none of the chases have taxed me that hard or been that frustrating. I dont get why people said you would have to die and do them multiple times. I have died twice, most of the time you can outrun them and stop to check the map and move on. And when the torch is off you can often stroll about unfettered.

Anyhow, I did this amazing section just near the bridge, wont spoil it but it will scare Leo to death. I was shaking at the end, because it wouldn't seem to let me go. And then there was this other section, as if you weren't helpless enough they hobble you further and you use a unique mechanic for movement and momentarily shit your pants.

And I didn't think much of the story but suddenly they threw out a few plot twists and one cracker and then the world just froze when it happened. Grinning

Now looking for bubblegum.

Isn't life just that much more interesting when you finally realize you aren't as right about things as you thought you were?

I gotta buy this game as soon as possible thanks to you GG. Your (spoilerfree, thank you for that) impressions sound awesome. Shattered Memories seems to be just the kind of creepy fix I need to tide me over until Alan Wake finally comes out.

Yeah,  I died a few times almost every chase because i always forgot to turn my flashlight off and because i had trouble pushing creatures off me in one particular direction for some reason. I bet having the flashlight off helps quite a bit. But I never thought that made the game bad.

This is a very good game, hope it gets decent sales.

I wish I could talk more but there are scenes you want to see first hand.

I recentely had a problem where when there was a creature on my back and pushing back i.e moving the controllers inwards towards my body didn't seem to work. I thrust to the left instead with both controllers and it worked fine.

I think I have done all the chases now and got through them all with very little trouble. I got stuck at the gumball machine. Those devious bastards put in a red herring. Grinning

Otherwise just that one where its a lost woods type situation with that one room and 4 exits that repeats.

This game is really, really atmospheric, I would like the phone messages to be more clear to hear but on the whole the mechanics really draw you into the game.

Considering there is no "danger" outside of the frozen world its pretty impressive how Climax can still make the game tense and scary. I was walking around and was faced with this pitch black, long corridor and this chilling childs cries were echoeing about. I turned off the torch to see how dark it was and then put it back on.

I literally had to pause and collect myself before walking down there.

Some the dialogue, the script is really good and I can't quite iterate why. It's very sort of... real and disturbing. There's one conversation that made me feel very uncomfortable, in a car.

Oh yeah and I find the psychiatrist the scariest bit of the game. That is one intense, scary, evil type dude. Sex is death. Yeah.....

Can't wait to start this again, once done that is.

Well I have seen no advertising whatsoever. Plus for some unknown reason it launched a week late in the UK compared to the continent. And the Wii version was buried on the back shelf with two copies whilst the PSP version got pride of place in its own little stand with 20 or so copies near the front of the store.

Going back to earlier pages and looking at some reviews, its really sad how this game got some trashy reviews.

Especially the ones that say "It's a great game, but its not silent hill" and then they give it a trashy score. I've never played a SH game so I have no pre-conceptions here. Whether or not it's Silent hill is irrelevant to the actual quality of the game which is very high and the innovation on offer here is of such a high level. It feels like they just threw out any rule books and conventions and said to themselves: we're going to make our game. It feels like playing RE4 for the first time, thinking about how they reinvented everything and it felt fresh and compelling.

The other complaints were with the chases. Firstly I have had no problem with them. They don't require amazing skill to do, you check your map, you turn off your torch when not being chased and you knock over a few objects or hide in a locker to get away from enemies.

They aren't confusing and they aren't difficult, assuming you can read an in game map that is.

And the argument about the horror being sectioned off dont wash with me because the chases occur fairly frequently and are interspersed with exploration in between. The motion controls too work 95% of the time too, so I get the impression that as with other wii games, people aren't doing the motion right and blame the controls instead.

The last complaint was length. Even if the game ended right now it would still get an 8.5 from me because its so innovative and fresh and well made. If the story payoff is as good as I've heard it will no doubt go higher.

Yeah, see this bugged me too. People were not recognizing that these were the fanatics and that it could still be a great game for the non-fanatics. Like res evil 4 actually.  I have no problem with SH fans voicing disappointment but it is when everyone else starts assuming that these people must be the the easiest people to please and if they aren't happy then the game must be shit. I kind of listened a bit too much to their complaints as well  and it was only when I played the game that I realized many of the complaints were just petulant bullshit about it not being silent hill 1, 2 or 3 with better graphics and tweaked combat gameplay.

Seeing as how you've been reacting to the game so far, I think you'll freak when you hit the ending.

Ending was whoa.

WHOA

I did not see that coming. I had my own theories, that it might be like the end of Oldboy.

Mindf*** extreme. That was awesome. And the written psyche evaluation was suprisingly accurate at the end. Except for the sex rating, those warshaks were all abstract so I just picked the two round ones assuming they were ovaries LOL

I started my second playthrough with an opposite psyche eval. The changes are minor but welcome and adds a nice bit of replayability to the game. Second time through the chases are so easy for me. I could literally get through them in about a quarter of the time, first time through. I'm so good at the chases I actually probably could investigate the ice world if I wanted.

I wouldn't mind if they had a map randomiser for the chase bits, as I enjoy them so much I would play them for fun or for scores.

So I finished the game over 3 days, playing intensely though. I want it to be longer because I enjoyed it so much, I dont feel its too short, but I just want more. So at the moment I want to go through the second playthrough first.

Some of the dialogue changes are sweet.

Oh, oh and the saw proof of the game watching you. Second time through I perved over the reflection of this woman getting changed. It was a random thing, I caught it out of the corner of my eye then zoomed in. Then she came into the room a few seconds later and called me out on it. LOL

Also in that same room I noticed that there were four bottles each containing coloured pills. Question is, will giving her a different colour affect the game? I have tried 2 colours with no change noticible by me.
