What ones did you like?

I liked the original RE Umbrella Chronicles, the sequel was too slow, although had awesome visuals for a wii game.

I think every action/adventure game Capcom has made in the past 20 years is a Resident Evil spinoff.

In terms of Resident Evil, without a doubt the Revelations games are the best spin offs. Still nowhere near as good as the mainline though.

In terms of spinoff franchises, my favorite games would be:

  1. Dino Crisis 1
  2. Onimusha 3
  3. Devil May Cry 1
  4. Dino Crisis 2
  5. Devil May Cry 3

Best Resident Evil inspired games:

  • Silent Hill 1
  • Parasite Eve 1
  • The Evil Within 2

Revelations is mainline. The best spinoffs are clearlt the Outbreak games, you can read all about them on my list of top games! Chronicle games are the next best ones.

I’ve worked on both the main series and this spin-off series and I think Revelations has its own unique fun and allows us to try new and experimental gameplay ideas that we couldn’t do in the numbered titles, which is great. I’d love to see both series continue. What do you think?

Okabe then replied:

Yeah, I would also love to be able to continue Revelations as a spin-off series. I think the best thing about it is being able to bring back less-used characters. And it also lets us explore stories in between the events of the main games. So if we can keep making games that focus on the fans I expect the fans would keep enjoying them too.

I feel like we're being a bit too fast n loose with what I'd call a spinoff. Tho at least people know their Capgod lore.

All the spinoffs are pretty bad, haven't really deep dived the revelations stuff tho.

Outbreak I guess is the best one, as much as I'd love to essay battle vader on that one lol, uh the first one was the most interesting, and it makes sense considering Left 4 Dead was a big hit. Get a few of your buddies, run away from zombies, Capgod could make the coolest fucking game too if they put the resources into getting it right, you just have to adjust how you design levels n spaces. So like that game had cool shit like locking n barricading doors, but like including your allies off from getting further into the level, and then they die n comeback as zombies. Given how good the resident Evil 6 combat mechanics are, I would kill for a game that had tweaked version of RE6's combat (because you might be a bit too op if they just make you a RE6 dude) in a Japanese game dev styled left 4 dead. They already have some neat ideas of their own with Outbreak, the lack of voice chat hurt that game more than its actual quality tbh.

The light gun games on the wii are fine, it's a fucking light gun game. It's okay, not anything I'm super into playing, but its funner than the dead space one, if a bit below the house of the dead one on the wii.

That game might be coming... well not with RE6s combat mechanics. It will just be RE2 with a few new mechanics.
