Hi, I'm back. Busy and sick.

I have to find a computer with an SD card slot to update the latest version of the firmware, honestly it would be eaier for me to find a PC with a floppy disc drive. So far only Genesis carts work, and to take out the NES and SNES carts requiers as much pressure as is required to tow a small trailer of logs. I was seriously concerned I was going to break the thing.

The genesis games were a true pleasure, visually, I've never seen them look better.

The controller is not as bad as everyone makes out.

Buy a cheap USB SD card reader. And some Vaseline.

Is the vaseline for the anus?

Yes, so he can more easily insert the SD card into his anus, and his penis into the floppy disc drive of his PC, thus acting as a conduit between the SD card reader and the PC.

Okay, updated the firmware. Nothing works now. I've tried over thirty carts from all the various systems.

It's not that I spent over $250 on the system that sucks, it;s all the hope I had invested in it.

$25 or $2,500 that's awful, man. Sad Even I was super excited for you from a distance.

Hopefully this can be sorted out somehow with older firmware/tech support...

The crazy thing is I've never updated the Retron but it has worked for me with the few games I've played.

The crazy thing for me is that a device made to play games that were all released before the term 'patch' had ever been used in correlation to videogames, would require updates to be able to play those.

AC, I think that it may have something to do with skirting copyright laws, but hostly don't know.

Other than my own experience I have heard that the Retron 5 consistently loads everything you put in it, so I may have a defect.

This is what customer service said,

"Thank you for contacting us about your RetroN 5. I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing this issue. Please check if there are any damaged pins in the pin connectors. If there are any bent, damaged, or missing pins in your console, please take a photo of the pin connector and send it in a reply to this email.

You can try performing a factory reset by going to http://retron5.in/node/4  (For MAC users, please visit http://retron5.in/node/10) and following the instructions there. Please keep in mind that a hardwire controller (e.g.  NES, SNES, or Genesis controller) and an SD card you are willing to reformat, and a PC are needed to do a factory reset. "

Why would you need one of those pads? Can't you just use the pad that comes with the system?

I remember I was GOING to do the update when I got it, but then thought to myself about all the times I've fucked something up by doing an update and said nah fuck it, I'll see how it works first. If I HAVE to do it, then I'll do it. So far so good, but again, I haven't played it a ton.

I don't mind the pad really, it's functional, and I have it above the TV, so the wirelessness of it is preferred over the original game pads. Theoretically, since now it won't play any games but for 4 NES titles.

As for the update, it was mandatory, as soon as I turned it on it said, "Update mother fucker" or words to that extent.

Anyway, not feeling like this is going to go well.

I'll probably lay down the almighty power of the Game Under Podcast Michammer and see if they change their attitude.

Bottom line, Hyperkin said I cannot return it to them, reutrn it to Ebayer.

Ebayer kindly offered refund or replacement.  I really want a functional Retron 5, even after all this, so kind of don't know if to take the refund or replacement.

Frankly, the Ebayer has been so cool I kind of don;t want to risk getting a second efective unit and troubling him again.

Perhaps read up on the matter online?  If it's a widespread problem you'll find plenty of people with similar problems.  If not, you just had bad luck and you could assume a replacement wouldn't suffer the same problems.

^Yeah, I did not find anyone else with the same problem.

This is going to go one of two ways:

- I decide not to get a replacement and in 4 years these things will be rare and worth $1200.

- I decide to get a replacement an next month Hyperkin announces the Retron 6 with N64 support included.
