Dreamcast games play very well on my Retroid. Saturn....not so much. There is an emulator for it, but I've yet to find a game that plays even slowly. I haven't tested too much, but most games are broken or nearly broken, assuming they even load up. That's more testament to the state of Saturn emulation though. No one has figured it out yet.
Oh, I watched this video last night, which made me think the Saturn emulation was good on the Retroid 3+. Good to know it isn't there yet.
Yeah I've seen a couple of those videos, and I've never gotten that kind of performance out of any Saturn game. Again, I haven't tried that many, so I might still be playing the ones that have trouble.
It's also very likely that this is someone who is adjusting and customizing settings and frame rates for each game on an individual basis, which I believe is necessary to get optimal performance out of some of the more powerful emulators (PS2 and GameCube for instance). I haven't fooled around with those things too much. If it doesn't work out of the box, usually I just put it aside and play something that does work without having to go through optimization.

I went down a little bit of a rabbit hole today and I learned something kind of interesting about my Retroid 3+. Apparently the emulator for the 3DS is good enough that it can run some of the less demanding games on it.
I ended up testing out Fantasy Life, and even without any optimization adjustments, it ran pretty well. It's obviously not ideal, as both screens get condensed onto a screen that's about the size of your smartphone. However you can arrange the screens to lay side by side and that's not a bad alternative, particularly since the vast majority of 3DS games use the second screen for inventory management or maps.
After being excited for about 10 minutes I started to remember something rather unfortunate... I really don't like a lot of 3DS games. I always thought the system was a little half-assed, and really it was since a lot of resources were dedicated for 3-D features I guess. Anyway, I'm going to mess with a few games just to see how they play, but I doubt I'll really get that much use out of it. Still, I suppose it's nice to have another small batch of options to play.

Speaking of 3DS, we need some of those game on Switch online. I'm especially thinking of Luigi's Mansion 2. Like Rob said, the second screen is usually inventory/map screens anyway.
It's pretty much a crime that Kid Icarus: Uprising is still locked behind the 3DS with that ridiculous control scheme. It should have been very easily ported to the Wii U, and it wouldn't take much more of an adjustment to put it on the switch.

zero chance of that happening. They're releasing a remaster on Switch next year.
For Christmas I got my granddaughter a Miyoo Mini + which will hopefully introduce her to the world of Retro gaming.
It's a neat little system. Obviously Gameboy shaped, but not as long. Despite its small size, it's actually pretty comfortable in my hands, so I think in smaller ones it'll be perfect. It plays all of the 8 and 16 bit consoles, PS1, and All of the handhelds up through Game Boy advance. I picked it up for only 35, so it seemed pretty much like a no-brainer. The only other expense is a microSD card.
So now the question is what games do I put on it for her. She likes pokémon, so I'm going to put a bunch of those on there, as well as some of the fan-made GBA pokémon games that are actually extremely impressive if you're into that series. I'll probably throw a harvest moon game or two on there as well since her mom liked those when she was younger. I'll probably put Yoshi and Mario games on there as well.
Anyway, those of you with some younger kids, give me an idea what 8-year-olds like.

Oh yeah, this would be a good little puzzle game machine. I may have to take a look and see one other puzzle games are out there. That's one genre where I always stuck with the classics and didn't look around at many others.
Funny story about the Miyoo Mini +. When I ordered it, they shipped it without the SD card. Initially, I thought I had to get my own and just put games on it, but that wasn't the case. It was actually supposed to come with one, and they just left it out.
I asked them if they could give me the files that I would need to install on a SD card of my own, since I figured it would just be easier to do that than have them send me one or send back the original exchange it for a new one. Ultimately they just refunded me all my money and politely told me they weren't going to do anything else for me, they also let me keep it. So after doing a little homework on what kind of operating system it needed, I downloaded everything, reinstalled it, and about an hour later it was good to go. So basically I got the whole system for free.
I will say it again, this is a very comfortable handheld. It's actually portable size, and easy to take anywhere. If I get another one of these retro systems, this is probably the direction I'm going to go.
