Okami, yeah that game is needlesy long and the combat sucks. Visually too, overated a bit. I love the art style but even in the slightly better looking wii version it still shows the fuzzy soft res visuals. It's not like clear, crisp viewtiful joe cel shading.
Yeah Okami looked like ass in screenshots too. I think that's really why it didn't sell better.
Soul Reaver is complete and I must say it still was incredible game for me. It still holds up very well in terms of exploration and puzzles, combat does feel very simplistic but the unique way you have to kill the vampires gives the combat its own twist. For the most part the game would still work today with a graphical overhaul, about the only thing outdated was the over abundance of block puzzles. Outside of that the puzzles were interesting, multilayered and were paced perfectly. I had forgotten nearly all the details of the gameplay so I was able to experience the game as if it were my first time. I still had a sense of wonder as I discovered new areas. I love games that allow you to explore, to me discovering new areas can be as compelling as a good combat. There are moments in this game where you revisit an old area and you see a new wall you can climb or a water you can now swim in and it takes you to a whole new area, not something simple I mean gigantic locations, many of which are optional. It all feels very polished and you can tell they were pushing the PS1 to the max.
The bosses were nothing to write home about, they were more like puzzles than bosses. Even though they didn't really provide a battle at least it gave you a final goal in each area, beating one gave you a new power so it always felt like a major moment in the game. I have always felt boss fights of any kind are important to a game, and I mention this cause of the game I am about to play next.
I finished the game in over 15 hours, which is a great length for most action/adventure games. It could be speed through in a much shorter time if one does not explore the interesting world CD created. Yeah the reward for exploration is a useless spell but its about the gameplay experience of finding these spells, believe me its worth it as some have the best puzzles in the game to reveal them.
The story of Soul Reaver is surprisingly simple, you get killed by Kain, a giant squid thing revives you and tells you to kill Kain and your brothers. So you do that and in the end Kain opens a portal through time. A nice easy to follow revenge tale, I have no clue what happened with the next games, it reminds me of the insanity that happened with the Matrix sequels. This game is unfinished, it was released with severely edited content, I can only imagine how incredible the game would have been if they completed Soul Reaver as it was intended. Instead they took out the edited content and fleshed it out into another game changing much of story and gameplay in the process.
Well I finished the good half of my Kain playthrough. Soul Reaver was as enjoyable as I remember and it remains a classic of the early days in 3D gaming. It's all downhill from here, well relatively speaking, none of the games are bad per say.
As I said, SR2 was basically an add-on to the end of SR1...everything they couldn't fit in. Its good shit, but not really a full sequel.
My favorite, most memorable part is when Raziel goes to meet that dude who lives up in that mountain getaway....I remember that as being the coolest part of the game, and the best story segment.

What's wrong with it?

It doesn't power on. And changing the fuse does nothing. I dont want to buy a new adaptor from ebay only to find out its not the adaptor, its the machine and have to buy a new machine on top of that.

Yeah, the power adapter would be the most likely culprit. I'd be surprised if it were something else. I've had a couple Atari and one Sega Genesis adapter go bad over the years. If you have a local retro game shop nearby, take your N64 to them, and ask them if they can test it for you. That's what I did with my Genesis, and it booted right up, so I bought an adapter from them.

Ebay only has one copy of the dreamcast version, and its the Aussie version. Of Shadowman I mean.

I wont watch that video yet, I dont remember the scene and moment you are talking about. I think its Yanos Aldron, he lived on some mountain but was that SR2 or Defiance.

Wow those first few minutes were painful, but they review the game well. They are correct, it is an excellent mix of elements and the game is fantastic. But they are wrong when they said "you don't buy this game and beat it in a weekend" that is exactly what I did when I originally bought it. Its not that long.

Round 2 Fight!
Geist.
I actually liked Geist.
Sadly enough, that is the best exclusive FPS type game on the Cube...though its more of an adventure game really.
I thought Geist was well-liked by pretty much everyone?

My local shop is miles and miles away in the centre of town.
It's been so long since I played Soul Reaver, what's the story of this series again? The main character used to be human right?

I think only like 10 people actually played it. It didn't get very high ratings, but its a solid 7.5-ish game for what it is. It has some great ideas that I'd like to see done in a better game.

Yeah it was simple. Its been 1000 years since Kain desided to stay alive and destroy the world. Raziel is one of his 6 "children", he evolved wings before Kain did so Kain threw him into a void. In the void a giant squid thing called the Elder God saves Raziel and tell him that the vampires ruined the circle of life as no souls pass on, Raziel must be his Soul Reaver and kill Kain and his brothers.
He kills most of the brothers, fuses with the Soul Reaver sword and finds out he was once a Sarafan priest in his former life many thousand years ago. The sarafan were vampire hunters. At the end he confronts Kain but Kain opens a portal in time and jumps in, Raziel follows. The end.
EDIT: Oh the story of the series, well that would require pages of writing. The very basics are that Kain, a dude that was born as the pillar of balance (there are nine members of the world tied to the nine pillars that give life to the world, when one dies another is born, when Kain was born the circle was plunged into choas and the pillars were corrupted) was corrupted by evil forces and used to kill the circle, Kain had a choice to save the world by killing himself or rule it but send it to damnation, he decdided on the latter. Only many years later he finds a way to alter time so that he may still live and save the world, Raziel is the key to altering the course of history, the rest of the series is a time traveling adventure as they try to rewrite history.
I actually liked Geist.
