So if you avoid the crap combat, is it not even good as an adventure game? I just bought Xbox version off Ebay, should be interesting. Nyaa

Blood Omen 2 averages a 73%. That's about right.

Gamespot gave Soul Reaver 2 an 8.8, so apparently its as good as Twilight Princess. LMAO

Not really, it has more puzzle elements and key finding and such than games like DMC or NG. The combat is better than SR2 but no where near the quality of first or even second tier action games. What I have enjoyed so far about it is that it has some cool locations. Some Reaver powers are decent, could have made for a much better adventure game if they focused on that. There are boss battles unlike SR2.

Here is what I originally scored the Kain games:

BO - 8.6

Soul Reaver - 9.2

SR2 - 7.3

BO2 - Dont remember, have no record of it but do know its a 6 something.

Defiance - 7.6

The first two games I scored correctly. SR2 I am lowering a tiny bit and Defiance is way off, its like a 6.8 right now for me, something slightly lower than SR2.

And so it's over, a great franchise ending on a sour note. Defiance is at least a lengthy game, took over 10 hours but I wish it were shorter. I will say that the final two hours are very well done as they go into crazy boss mode and have some of the coolest story moments of the series.  The Kain vs Raziel battle really stands out so well done, makes me wonder why the rest of the game couldnt be as cool.

They should have spread out the bosses more, no reason to have so many at the end. The story is a complete convoluted mess by the end, if you try to piece together what the time traveling grand plan was it makes no sense , if you stay in the moment you can kind of enjoy it. It works cause you get all the confrontations you wanted but I am still wondering why all the junk that occurred in these games occurred.

Defiance turns out to be the one game in this replay that I have changed my mind about. It is not as good as I once thought. The change to an action game hurts far more than it helps cause the action is average at best. If you base your whole game around a gameplay element that is not fun it becomes annoying, tedious, frustrating and describes much of the game. Thankfully the Raziel sections have some simple puzzles and environments that require some exploration. Plus he has all sorts of reaver abilities, I think 8 in total, I can only imagine the kind of puzzles they could have had if they made this game more of an adventure game. Also Defiance is the least polished of the games I played, the camera for one can freak out and I had a few odd glitches occur throughout the game.

So my playthrough ended on a sour note but I still enjoyed replaying this interesting unique series. It struck me how different each game is, its all the same series but not one plays like the last.  My new final rankings of the games are as follows:

Soul Reaver > Blood Omen > Soul Reaver 2 > Defiance > Blood Omen 2

I now put Soul Reaver 2 ahead of Defiance because SR2 had those great puzzle areas and the story was handled better.

I don't understand why they seemed to put less and less effort into the series as it went on. Crystal Dynamics are obviously a great developer when they want to be: The new Tomb Raider games are very solid games & they did an amazing job bringing the series up to modern times. Why can't they do the same with Legacy of Kain?

They hate us. I don't know. Seems like a no brainer.

CD should put Kain in a Tomb Raider game, and have Lara kick his ass!

or

CD should put Lara in a Legacy of Kain game, and have her kick his ass there too!

or

CD could get the rights to Shadow Man, and create a game with Shadow Man and Lara Croft battling Kain together in Deadside! Yes, that's it! Grinning
