What I've found with the PSP though is that a 4 inch screen 10 inches from your face is like a 50 inch TV 6 feet away.

Metric:

What I've found with the PSP though is that a 120 mm screen 300 mm from your face is like a 1250 mm TV 2 metres away.

Only 2 metres away form a TV that large? Only four inches from a hand held screen?

You're either a little blind, or are fast on the way to being blind. Nyaa

EA: 3DS features a “really sweet” processing unit, Madden NFL Football using next-gen assets

The Madden franchise has taken a two year break on the DS. However, the series is going to be making its debut on the 3DS early next year, as “Madden NFL Football” will be one of the system’s very first titles. EA North Carolina designer Tony Marinello talked about the game in issue 262 of Nintendo Power. One of the topics discussed included the horsepower and graphical ability of the handheld. Here’s what Marinello said:

“It’s a pretty powerful handheld. The graphical processing unit on it is really sweet. You’ll notice we’ve got some rim lighting effects, for example, and environment maps on the helmets. Plus we’re using a lot of the assets from the ‘next-gen’ versions of the game.

Even though I start playing farther, I always end up playing something at those kinds of distances within a few minutes.

If you need some encouragement about the 3DS (after a tough week of news) listen to the 8-4 podcast.  It's usually hit or miss as a podcast but this week they talk about their hands-on experience with the 3DS from both Nintendo World and from the localizations they are currently working on (which of course they do not talk about).

I think it looks really nice, what I've seen so far of the graphics amazes me... but I have no money for it. =/

I'll probably end up holding off until if/when they make a lite version.

After listening to the 8-4 podcast on it, and reading more from Nintendo world, I'm more excited for it than I have been since they announced it.  If it replicates the 3D of any stereoscope (like a Viewmaster) with graphics as good as -- say even the PSP -- I'll love it.  Even if it's just subtle 3D, like having the HUD on a different level.

The 3D has been described as being "into the screen", like a diorama, not like 3D that jumps out of the screen, which for me is much preferred.

I have to find out what the price is before I commit to it on launch, but if it's in the "reasonable" ballpark I'll be there.

Oh, as an aside, a few weeks ago there was a story that said 3DS games in Japan where going to be roughly $10 more -- turns out they are the same prices as the DS (In Japan at least).
