It is really a hybrid, SCI FI, FPS, RPG pretty damn cool too. The controls are a bit clunky, but it has a great story and fun gameplay! Been forever ago I played it. I still remember how much fun I had with it. Not your avg. PC mindless FPS at all.
I really liked both Deus Ex games, played the 1ST one on PS2 and the 2nd on Xbox. The 1st game is definitely the better one though. Don't go into it expecting a traditional shooter....it honestly has more in common with Fallout 3 than it does, say, Crysis or Bioshock. Its got a really deep combat system with all the augmentations you can use and whatnot. And the vibe of the game is similar to Perfect Dark 64. That's actually a great way to describe it; Perfect Dark meets Fallout 3. And the dude on the cover looks like Steve Vai.
I have the steam version also but have never played much of it. It does look nicer than the PS2 version though, from what I have seen. Controls much better too. I think you'll dig it...its definitely a memorable game.

The start and the ending are the only flaws IMO. The first time I tried it I didn't get very far because it didn't hook me in at all. Second time I forced myself to pay more attention to the presentation than what I was actually doing, and that helped me survive the opening lol. The ending I found incredibly anticlimactic, and not at all narratively satisfying due to how it's set up. I don't think anyone agrees with me on that, though.
I think I'm done with strat games for a little while. Looking for a change of horizons, I just installed and fired up Deus Ex: GOTY Edition (Steam version). I keep listening how practically everyone that has played this game loves it, so I hope it lives up to the overly positive impressions.
Oh, look, this is a Warren Spector game. Let's see what the fuss is about. Both about the game and about seƱor Spector.
