Given the success of Resident Evil 4, you might be wondering why the developers decided to stick with the lightgun elements in The Darkside Chronicles rather than something similar to the style of RE4. Masachika Kawata, chief producer of Darkside Chronicles, addressed this question in a Q & A session with Capcom-Europe.

“Yes, naturally Resident Evil 4 on Wii was a huge success. Having said that, Umbrella Chronicles didn’t do badly either. However, we regretted the fact that all the scenarios, storyline were not included in that particular title, so therefore that was our regret and we wanted to work on a new title in the same style and we worked on Resident Evil 2 and Code Veronica.”

FUCK you Kawata

Kawata is fucktard. First he wants to get rid of Wesker forever and now giving us BS excuses.

It's happening Sad

Kawata wants to make MORE Chronicles games?

Oh nooooooooooooooo

Check out this brief exchange between Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles chief producer Masachika Kawata and the game’s other producer, Kentaro Noguchi. The two were discussing the possibility of developing more Resident Evil “Chronicles” games alongside the main RE titles in an interview with Capcom Europe.

KN: It would be up to Cavia, actually. Do you guys still want to create it?

MK: Yes, there are very attractive contents, therefore we would like to continue to work with that.

I think its perfectly possible to create great horror presentation on the Wii. In fact unfortunately we're not able to show it off just yet but shortly we're hoping to show off a new stage from a new scenario and I think that when fans get a look at that they will really be asking themselves "Is this really on the Wii?".

Actually we went to Nintendo's offices earlier on to show them this new stage and they were really, really impressed by it, by what we were able to get out of the Wii. Having said that I kept showing them headshots while playing the game and they weren't overly impressed by that.

You know when we finished making RE the Umbrella Chronicles, there were a lot of areas we wanted to improve and one of those areas was the visuals, we felt we could pump alot more out of that and another was the sound effects and the horror elements of the game. So we really wanted to concentrate on improving each of those elements, that goes for myself and the developers at Cavia.

I think we have really managed to live up to that promise and really get something impressive out of the wii. Even on the 360 and PS3 there are limits to what you can do but I do think that its true that working within limitations helps to improve the quality of what you're making. And really its those limitations that bring out the power and imagination of the creators really and really help to create something special.

I did play HOTD Overkill, and its really a unique game. I really dont speak that much English so I wasn't really able to get the most out of it but some of the other Capcom staff that did speak english were just laughing the whole time they were playing and it seems like a game that would really be suited to that kind of party atmosphere.

As for Dead Space extraction which I checked out today it looks like they are making a really scary game which is absolutely a game which is up my alley. I have to say that RE DC is still a little bit different to those games because it focuses a lot more on character and gives the fans an opportunity to play as those characters and relive their adventures. We are focusing on a game that will not lose to DS extraction in the horror stakes so hopefully you can look forward to playing both when they come out.

-Kawata

I typed all this up. Asses.

Sounds exciting, I wonder what the new scenario will be like, maybe a jungle like area.

  • "Operation Javier" will see Leon and Krauser cooperating as a two-man cell in a t-Virus outbreak
  • scenario is set in 2002
  • the stage is a South American riverside village and looks very similar to Kijuju
  • the mysterious girl is called Manuela and seems to be the only survivor of the village, though it is unknown why she didn't escape
