I just bought my first Wii VC games and I think I'm having some issues. I don't know if this is normal which is why I'm asking.

Whenever I start a SNES VC game, the Wii Home Menu keeps appearing when the game starts. Instead of going right into the game's menu, I have to close the home menu before I start the game.

It's annoying and I can still play the game with no problems at all, but I wonder if my Wii remote is disconnecting or if this is normal.

However, it doesn't do this with my N64 VC games or WiiWare games.

So is this a normal thing or am I having Wiimote connectivity problems?

I haven't played a SNES VC game in a while, but I am pretty sure that the Home Menu popping up is indicative of having used a "Save State" for the game. If I remember right, that is completely normal.

Okay. Thanks. I thought my Wiimote was having connectivity issues or something even when the batteries are full.

Suspending play

"Like other emulation software, the Wii Virtual Console enables the user to suspend play of a game at any time. To do this, users simply return to the Wii main menu from the game. Two exceptions to this are the N64 and Neo Geo, titles which do not support this feature. The N64 will allow play to be halted by returning to the Wii Menu but will require the person to start from the title screen to continue playing. Note that suspending play enables the player to pause the game indefinitely but does not function as a "save state" in that, once the game is resumed, the user will be able to pause play again (overwriting the suspend point) but will not be able to return to the previously suspended state

The suspend feature will not be available if the user resets the Wii with the reset button on the front of the console during gameplay. Further, if the Wii loses power during gameplay, there will be no further suspend state, nor will there be a way to restart from the previous suspend state."

Yeah its a temporary save state that saves whenever you hit the home menu and return to the wii title screen. If you want to start from the actual in game menu just hit reset software on the home menu.

Also, if you are playing on an HDTV, you may come across some problems, but since you are in the US using 60hz it should rarely happen. Otherwise there is this trick to get it to work, a button combination press.

Make sure the games you download support component interlace mode, or check the updates for said games and get those too.
