OMG, nice to have Europeans here that remember the Amstrad, I had the CPC64. Man, playing games from cassettes was unbelievable. It took so looooong to load anything. I had the version of Final Fight and used to sit there, hoping the tape wouldn't get chewed up 
It got stolen in a burglary though when we were on holiday though
My other favourite memory is playing the NES version of TMNT at a friends house, this friend was half Irish, half Black and he had this massive afro, so big you were actually conscious of it bumping into your face when sitting next to him.
And his mother was a chain smoker, so the house stank.

Mekere, did you ever get the BBC Micro in France? We used to play text adventures in school.
This is the one REALLY retro game that I still enjoy playing today. Love me some Pitfall, even today. It was the first video game that I ever beat, and to this day it's still one I enjoy playing. I bust it out on occasion the Atari plug-and-play thing that we have. Unfortunately it seems my skills have deteriorated as I haven't been able to finish it in 10 years now. Maybe it's my lack of interest in really wanting to relearn the game, maybe it's my inability to adapt to an old 2600 controller, or maybe I just suck, but regardless of the reason I still have fun.

In Australia we had to draw stuff with Puggles (baby Echidnas). Our first school computer was a lone TRS-80. There were only 3 computers in our town then (I had a TRS-80 as well, then some other loser had an Apple).
I do play old games quite a bit, but it helps when they've been moved to a new format (so I can play them on the go, or not have to turn on my CRTV).

My first console/computer/gaming system was a videopac, gift from my mother when I was 4 or 5. I have to admit that most of games were pretty lame and awfully repetitive. I have much better memory from my Amstrad (ok technically it was my brother's but I think I played it way more than him) and some great games like Arkanoid, cauldron, sorcery, jet set willy, Sacred armour of antirad, Fruity frank... and sooo much more. And, I must admit, so many games that I never finished
So it's time for me to put some Amstrad games in my backlog and finish the quest to completion that I began so many years ago! Wish me luck, the first game is Infernal Runner.
Infernal runner is a 1985 game, first on C64 it was ported on the Amstrad by someone kinda famous: Eric Chahi.

So Infernal runner is one of the first gore game, you play someone trapped in a mansion full of deadly traps. Picks, laser, pterodactyl, snakes and other acid bath, above that all, you get hungry and you need to find some food to continue your quest. As you can guess, the aim is going out of the mansion.
