I wrote an earlier blog that expressed my honest feelings on NSMB Wii.

It went something like this:

I explained how the first DS game took away a lot of the excitement of playing a modern-day 2D classic Super Mario game, which is why NSMB Wii didn't exceed my expectations like I wanted it too even though it did meet it.

So I went back to my DS to try out the first NSMB and that was enough to change my mind about the Wii version. I can now confidently say that the Wii game is much better than I initially thought. Playing the first one on the DS again showed me the vast improvements Nintendo succeeded with NSMB Wii. It really is the definitive New Super Mario experience for modern day consoles. I guess my feelings for the DS version is nostalgia because I recall how excited I was when that game came out. Now I don't think I can go back to it anymore.

The best thing to do now is to just enjoy NSMB Wii rather than seeing it through a critical (and spoiled) eye, because knowing Nintendo, it will be another 15-20 years before we get to play New NEW Super Mario Bros. Wii2! Nyaa

And like I said before, New Super Mario Bros. Wii is the best game I bought this gen!

I play NSMB DS on the bog as a time waster. What kills it is the 3-D character, somewhat sparse design and save system. As well as being too retro and not forward thinking enough.

I'm going to have to go back to NSMB and see why I gave up on it.  I don't remember being terribly impressed with it, but then, I'm hardly the one to best judge 2d platformers.
