I've never been one much for visual novel 'games' but I figured I would try the most renown one of all:
The House in Fata Morgana has no gameplay whatsoever, but it's stories are chilling, music is haunting and memorable and it is super-imaginitive! It's taking me a while to get through it, but it's the kind of thing you can put on, hit auto-play and just read along as you relax... I can't say I'd go through many of these, but so far I'm not disappointed I've stuck with this one!
...aaand I just realised I lied! I'm also going through Slay the Princess Pristine Cut... It's more of a "choose your own adventure" style visual novel and it's really, really good! I won't say much, as it needs to be experienced on your own, but it's freaky and compelling! Very much worth it!
...and then, suddenly this past week while I've been home and quarantining, these came out and captured my attention:
Marvel Rivals... Marvel-Watch...? Overwatch 2 - The Marvel Season...? Call it what you want, but it's free-to-play, has 33 Marvel characters all shooting the crap out of each other... Varying play-styles that account for team-up amongst certain characters (Rocket jumping on Groot's shoulders -- one person is Groot running around doing his thing, the other is Rocket, firing his gatling from on top of his best-bud)... Great re-imagining of characters, fun gun-play... and it's FREE!
Path of Exile 2 -- the king of the loot ARPGs has come to console in Early Access and I couldn't resist... The last one came out over ten ---YEARS--- ago and Grinding Gears is still supporting it! It's another 'free-to-play' but for some reason, to get into the beta costs $... I couldn't resist... Even if I get 5 years out of it, it's worth it! You will never experience a diablo-like game like this one with as much character customization and flexibility in its builds as this game... Its border-line overwhelming, but soooo awesome in it's trial and error experimentation and tailoring of its skills to your liking... If you have any passing interest in games like this, TRY IT ! ! !
LOL... and finally...
I forgot these:
Persona 5 Tactica -- At least by Atlus milking the ---HELL--- out of P5 it will make the wait for Persona 6 seem not quite as long! It's an SRPG this time, it's super-deformed and you don't actually summon Personas to the battlefield. You still fuse them and use their skills, but this is a decidely different take on a Persona spin-off... I'm playing it on 'Hard' and finding it just right! Very clever gameplay and as dramatic a story as always!
Playing the role of DVader tonight is Phantom_Leo!
And now an original song:
...
...
"Shadow's got a gun.
Shadow's got a gun.
This hedgehog's just begun...
...now Robotnik is on the run.
Tell me why he's not blue?
What did Robotnik do?"
...
...
Thank you. Thank you very much!
Figured I did one in June, I might as well do one in December! I've been trying to stick with single games as much as I could this year, but some were so long (but so great) that I was a little unfaithful here and there and started others mid-game...
Been working on Blasphemous 2 for a while now. It's a --GREAT-- game and I love the gore and the imagery, I'm just not too 'hardcore' these days and have switched to less demanding games in the middle of it...
Wanted something a bit more light-hearted and different paced, so...
You can't get more 'fluff-y' than a Marvel property, so Guardians of the Galaxy it is!
I was torn in starting this one... I love Harry Potter and have read and re-read the series multiple times...JK Rowling's transphobic rants and general disposition spoiled the game for me when it came out... Personal tragedy and major sickness both struck me at the same time and weakened my resolve... I found myself longing for a little magic, and boy-oh-boy does this game fit the bill! I can't say I've ever seen a studio take an existing ip and build such an in-depth and lore-encompassing game around it. Really captures the curiosities and spirit of the books in such a way, I can't put it down!
