Pffft. What we really need is a new F-zero. We've been sorely lacking those for way longer than this Detroid franchise you spreak of. And to add insult the last F-zero was a pisstake aimed to tie in to the animé or something. Beat it in one 3-hour sitting and returned it.
Super Metroid, Metroid Prime, Metroid Prime 2, and Metroid: Zero Mission. I could only play any one of those games and be completely absorbed regardless of circumstance, such fantastic games.
Man, I love the Prime series. I loved all Metroid games but Prime was special. Prime 1 still holds up today, also one of my rare '10' games. It's gameplay perfection.
I also remember purchasing Metroid. I went to a toy store called Tons O Toys. Back then, the NES games were hung up behind the counter. The only thing you had to go on was the box art and it sure was appealing. Once I bought it and got in the car, I pulled it out the instruction booklet and examined it for the whole hour ride home. Yes, I even smelled the instruction booklet.
What future games interest you, GG? I ask because you seem to like fewer games than most of us here and are very selective. That's not a criticism, just curious.
Edit: shouldn't have posted that here so let's take this to the news section.

Those were the days. New games just don't have that same smell as they used to.
Let's play rank the metroid.
- Metroid Prime
- Super metroid
- Metroid Prime 3
- Metroid Zero Mission
- Metroid Prime 2
- Metroid Fusion
- Metroid 2
- Metroid
- Metroid Other M
- Metroid pinball
- Metroid Prime Hunters
Counting AM2R I would place that at 6.
1. Metroid Prime (GOAT)
2. Super Metroid
3. Metroid Prime 3
4. Metroid Prime 2
5. Metroid Fusion
6. Other M
7. Zero Mission
8. Metroid 2
9. Metroid DS
10. Metroid
11.Federation Force( of course, it'll be last)
- Prime 3 is my fave, best graphics, best controls, most modern production, voice acting and a more easy to understand game map.
- Prime 1 next - awesome at the time
- Prime 2 - actually the most satisying one to complete as it was the hardest
- Other M - really liked this, different but fun. Must replay it some day
- Metroid Zero Mission is my fave 2D metroid - a true classic
- Fusion next - a bit grey though and hard
- Super Metroid is lower cause the controls are a bit floaty and the graphics aren't as good as the gba games.
- Hunters sucks ass, looks horribad
- Metroid NES is a stinking butt pupsule that should be buried along with every other NES game not called Mario.

4. Metroid Zero Mission - 8/10
5. Metroid Fusion - 7/10

7. Metroid Prime 3: Corruption - 7/10
Get the fuck out
-Prime Hunters
-Other M
-Federation Force
I know what you're thinking Tomas, and yes I still stand by my usual response of Prime 3 is fine and all, but Pootie Tang is more deserving of being called a sequel to Prime 1 and 2.
30 years ago Metroid hit, its one of the more interesting NES games, definetly memroable and totally orginal. I remember playing it back in the day, getting lost in those giant tunnels that seemed to lead nowhere. Having to farm the damn enemy spawn tubes for health. The game was brutal yet very engaging. But it wasn't until Super Metroid hit that Metroid solidified itself as one of gamings greatest franchises. Super Metroid is without question one of the greatest games ever made. it has spawned countless clones which to this day continues to be one of the most prevalent 2D genres in gaming. Its also one of the few franchises which I can say I have played, owned and beat every single installment, yes even the pinball one.
For me Metroid Prime is the pinnacle of the series. One of my favorite games of all time, one of my few 10/10 games. It is a masterpiece in every way. Lets not forget that same day Prime hit, Fusion hit as well, that was the height of Metroid mania. Sadly Metroid has been ignored by nintendo for years now. They didn't even mention the 30th anniversary. Many sites did.

Since Nintendo gave us jack shit for the 30th anniversary we turn to the fans. Released this weekend to celebrate the 30th anniversay a fan game called AM2R (Another Metroid 2 Remake) was released. It takes Zero Missions template and turns Metroid 2 into an all new game. It is Metroid 2 in spirit but it is mostly a brand new game. And it is every bit as good as a Nintendo game, you cannot tell the difference.
