Prototype could very well be a better game than inFamous!

It is visceral; it is beautiful in a dark, colorful kind of way; it does justice to NYC... Above all else it is a --B-L-A-S-T-- to play!

So much blood. So much destruction. So much violence. Sooo. Much. Fun!

More impressions to come!

Granted I have not played the Evil side of inFamous yet --BUT-- there's something to be said for rampaging through the streets of Manhattan, running into the middle of Time Square, picking up a car and throwing it at the crowd, then grabbing a random tourist, smashing his head into the pavement then consuming the remains...

...but that could just be me.

Remember, I said COULD VERY WELL ... I am not passing final judgement AT ALL just yet.

The game is a lot darker and bloody than Sucker Punch would probably venture to do and sometimes it just fits one game better than others.

This guy is NOT Cole. He is IMMEDIATELY pissed, out for vengeance and has NO conscience at all. There are no Karma moments here.

Where Cole has electricity, Alex has more Alien/Organic weaponry; it just has a whole different feeling to it. This game gets your adrenaline pumping HARD.

They took the jumping, throwing and hammer fists concepts from Hulk: UD mixed it with the quarantine plot of inFamous and threw it all together in NYC...

The blood is a thing unto itself though. Within the first minute of starting the game, you see Alex literally splitting people in half!

It also shares a lot in common with Spiderman: Web of Shadows. There's even a "Web of Intrigue" that stores memories (movies) and helps to tie all the people you consume (that are part of the plot) together so you can re-discover your past.

**SPOILERS!**

Wow-Oh!

Just finished a mission where you are introduced to the Hunters.

You have to lead them to a military complex where the soldiers can (somewhat) distract them from you!

You need to grab rocket-launchers and shoot them enough to weaken them, then consume them! (Have I mentioned the Hunters somewhat resemble Tyrants?!)

Consume your first one and you are given your claws (snikt!)...

You have to fight wave after wave of them (claws work better against them) until you are told to rupture gas tanks to bring the whole complex down on them!

You need to Parkour up walls to avoid them, while consuming soldiers to keep your health up, while taking out the tanks...

Completed the mission and bought the ability to glide!

(This was the second or third storyline mission!)

Wow!

**END SPOILERS!**

I know a lot of people are not going to like this, but I am wondering if there is a difference between the 360 and PS3 versions.

I have seen --NO-- pop-up or draw-in --AT ALL-- as they described in the review and I am playing on a PS3.

The other complaints? Repetetive missions... ummm... then inFamous, GTA, Crackdown and every single Spiderman game needs to come down a point or two.

...and a 7.5, while not a bad score at all, just doesn't make sense. Hulk: Ultimate Destruction received mostly in the area of 8.5 when it came out. This game trumps that game in every conceivable way!

Eh. Whatever. The game is awesomely fun. Someone was probably still tired from E3 and grumpy during the playthru of this game.

Play it anyway!

Like I said before, it seemed like the reviewer wasn't all that interested --OR-- maybe he was rushed to review it after E3.

It is averaging 93 out of 100 at Metacritic presently!

I'm also seriously wondering about the different versions. Again, no pop-up or draw-in in my PS3 game! I can see clear across NYC, even while gliding. I've also had tons of panicking people, hunters, a hive, a helicopter, tanks and explosions on screen without any slowdown.

I wonder what's going on here?

Also, have I mentioned that the "Infected" are basically zombies?

You got your tyrant-like Hunters and your shambling Zombies. (Resident Evil.)

You've got you stealth mechanics where you have to assume the likeness of an army commander and sneak onto bases to procure weapons and vehicles. (Shades of MGS.)

You've got an anti-hero that can run up walls (Spiderman), has super-human strength and can jump for blocks at a time (Hulk), has Symbiote powers (Venom) and claws to carve zombies and humans clear in half! (Wolverine. snikt!)

ANOTHER, PERFECT Summertime-Blockbuster game! (Lots of fun, big explosions and borrows heavily from the things you know and love!)

"For those of you wondering how different Sucker Punch's Infamous is from Prototype, the answer is 'very'. While both occupy the same genre space, hitting stores with a super-powered protagonist imbued with freewheeling movement across an open-world pocked with missions and sub-missions, and gameplay that rewards exploration (both have the equivalent of Crackdown's agility orbs to find) but is very much combat-centric, Infamous is more elegant and refined in design, with more of a focus on ranged combat, while Prototype is – truth be told - more frenetic and fun. Prototype is more of a spectacle and puts more power and choice in the hands of the player. It can feel messier in design as a result, with something of a kitchen sink approach, but gliding about the city at speed, slicing and dicing enemies in the midst of massive firefights, having greater choice in upgrading your character, and generally giving you more variety in gameplay, are all big pluses. Well worth checking out." From IGN.Com's Prototype AU 8.5 / 10 Review

--"both occupy the same genre space, hitting stores with a super-powered protagonist imbued with freewheeling movement across an open-world pocked with missions and sub-missions, and gameplay that rewards exploration (both have the equivalent of Crackdown's agility orbs to find)" and they were both released a few short weeks from each other... How ever in the world can you compare the two?! lol.gif

--So, apparently, all of the people whom are more forgiving sloths who've actually played the game seems to agree it's fun and "well worth checking out."  lol.gif

--So, unless you don't like fun or have boycotted games from major publishers (for whatever petty reason), I agree! Rent it or buy it, it's your choice, but Prototype is a great "Summer-time" game to play and enjoy! big_smile.gif

One of the coolest sub-missions I have come across so far is the War! Mission:

Basically, you have the military and the infected (zombies!) fighting each other throughout the entire game. In the War missions you are assigned a side and must decimate the other. Imagine the utter chaos of being thrown into the middle of the battlefield, having to seek out your enemies and slaughter them (while consuming them to keep your health up, as bullets fly and explosions erupt all around you)!

It almost feels like a Real-Time Strategy battle! As you take out the enemies heavy hitters (tanks, for example), you see an immediate effect; you see the chaos lessen on screen, hear them screaming to each other about having to beef up their defenses and go on the attack, and a meter at the top of the screen gives you a visual representation of just how each side is progressing.

Very, very, very cool!

Nice impressions, Leo. I think I might want to give it a try, but the Uncharted 2 beta is swallowing all my gaming time. Sad

Beta's are for the birds. Never understood the point in playing incomplete games!

All the games I play are incomplete, so that fact has no importance to me.

OK I actually read your impressions, is it really that violent? Is it an M rated game? That pic is very gory.

Oh, yes...

It's very, very gory!

Like I said, less than a minute into the game, you are seeing Alex literally split military personnel in half!

...and not just at the torso... we're talking head to toe down the middle too!

I was shocked for a split second!
