Crazy? Crazy LIKE A FOX that's what.

So I wanted a Wii U style wide grip so my arms weren't pinched into the middle with the standard switch grip. It gives me back pain. But you can use the switch controllers separately I hear you say. Yes you can but they are too small and your aim isn't as stable as a two handed grip. The solution? There was none. I searched far and wide for a wide Switch joycon grip and came up with nothing. No one has made one.

And so my mind began wandering. And I came up with the solution.

I bought this semi-flexible switch mold/grip from amazon.

It's cheap, and fairly rigid, which is good. Before I bought it my idea was to cut a piece of wood that was Switch tablet dimensions and put it in there. And then as I was thinking more deeply I began inspecting the switch joycon grip and noticed that the metal brackets which the joycons slot into are screw on. So... I could buy a cheap grip, remove the brackets and attach it to the aforementioned block of wood for a sturdy, strong and light grip.

And then the thing arrived.

It came with a piece of foam in the exact shape of the mold. I cut it to slightly larger than the switch in width so it would press against the joycons slightly to hold them in place. What happened was that the foam would lean inwards towards me and the right joycon as a result would ride upwards slightly because I cut the corner off the mold so get better access to the R button. It suddenly occured to me that elastic bands would hold the foam in place. I also looped an elastic band around the right joycon and attached it to the foam and set it inside the mold so the bands never touched my hands to annoy me.

And the end result aint pretty, but it works, a wide grip, a light controller, more stable aiming, less back pain and perfect for Splatoon 2.

Try it yourself.

That's pretty cool that you managed to do that. But what about the pro controller?

That doesn't look very comfortable...  It also looks 3D printed, which doesn't bide well for it's durability.

It's still a normal width controller so would pinch my arms into the middle and give me neck pain. I would like one for the full sized buttons and right stick placement, plus d-pad but the price is extortionate.

I saw it on ebay. It looked kinda cheap and poorly finished, also it has no backing. If you look at the shell I bought, it has an ergonomically shaped back to make the switches flat back more like the more comfortable Wii U controller.

Also I should point out, when used as intended it makes a nifty Switch handheld case which is more comfy, has all slots and vents open for use (including the kickstand) and is more comfortable to use. As well as protecting the switch when putting it down on a surface or dropping it.

I also ordered some Mothca Switch joycon skins from amazon

They just arrived. Adds a bit of bulk so makes separate joycon aiming better for splatoon and it has a better grip. You can still attach them to switch tablet with them on and they are quite comfy.

An object of poor quality. Usually a video camera or a microphone.
"This youtube video quality sucks. Was it filmed with a potato?"

"The voice acting in this cartoon sucks. Did they record the voices with a potato?"

Da fuq?

Anyhow my construction imploded. Well, the foam is too flexible and the right joycon kept riding up, annoyingly. So I have to use a hard block of plastic or wood and I might have to get some switch brackets to screw onto it.
