Noticed an odd phenomenon today. I was in many stores; target, best buy, walmart and Gamestop. The first three were comepletely sold out of Wii U's and their electronic sections were WRECKED. 3 Gamestops I went to had both Deluxe and standard Wii U's sitting on their counters for sale. Every Gamestop I've been in for the last month has been saying "We have a waiting list you can go on to be called if you weren't able to pre-order a Wii U for launch. There's a few hundred people on there already, but we'll try to get everyone a system for the Holidays."

They were obviously trying to build up hype, but it TOTALLY back-fired on them. They are sitting on systems and people aren't even bothering to check their stores for fear of long lists. People seemed to just go to all the OTHER stores and buy THEIR systems. Gamestop could not have possibly satisfied all of these fabled "lists" they claimed to have so quickly. Instead of building hype, they scared all of their customers away! Dumbasses.

I got the same spiel from my Gamespot as well, while thinking to myself, "Bullshit!"

Yeah Gamestop pulled a classic bullshit line in the vein of the old "Shipped vs Sold" crap we hear about. Manager at my store told me that nationwide there was a backorder of 400K, which I believe is true. Over Black Friday I popped into one to get a new Wiimote and there were customers still looking for them and weren't able to get one there. However I'm sure plenty of individual stores are carrying them, but of course they could never be forthright and let their customers know that.

Doesn't surprise me, in fact it makes me rather happy.  I've overheard one time too many Gamestop employees misinform their customers about upcoming releases and how they won't be able to get upcoming popular titles ANYWHERE unless they preorder.  I've never seen that happen...ever.  The closest I've ever seen it was for GTA; Vice City.  I'm sure they are doing what the higher ups tell them to do, but that's a rather crappy tactic, IMO.

As for me I'm digging the Wii U thus far.  The installs are indeed annoying and the battery life of the controller irks me, but those things aside I'm having a lot of fun.  NSMB is definitely my favorite of the "New" titles....ironically because of how much it reminds me of the old ones.  Picked up BO2 as well even though it's not my cup of tea....mainly because I'm a terrible shot, but I figured it would serve as a good template for how smooth online gameplay is.  Nintendoland I'll say this much about; Some friends/family+some wiimotes+Mario Chase=100x better than anything Wii Sports or Wii play ever offered. The Wii U's netflix app is now my favorite of the ones I've used in the past.  Switching between the tv and the controller is seemless, and once the app starts eveything feels really smooth.  As for Amazon's and Hulu's?  Amazon is a clunky mess and Hulu, while better than Amazon's interface, could still use a lot of work.  Youtube?..just use the internet browser and use it that way.  The app is a mess.

Finally I do like Miiverse.  A smart move by Nintendo and I could see Sony and MS setting up something similar in their next consoles.  Essentially it's just gaming twitter, but it's just a lot of fun to see the feedback/questions or artwork some of these people put up.  Makes me sad I don't have that kind of artistic talent.  I'd like to see Miiverse utilized and improved a bit more(more than 100 characters of text, on screen notification of a reply), but it looks like a great communication tool.

I'm looking forward to seeing more of what this system can do.  Can't wait to see the eShop flesh out some more, and I'm hoping 3rd get(and show)some love so it entices them to put more onto the Wii U.  Wii U tripped up a bit at the start, but all the pieces are there to make Wii U A success.  I just hope they can put them in place.

Just did a distance test to see how far I could get from the U before the signal was lost. Sadly, it was not that far at all. I'd say maybe 15 feet before it lost connection. So much for playing U games in another room in your house!

It took me until tonight to realize there was a 3DS-like charging cradle in the Wii U box for the GamePad. It clicks right in, just like the 3DS does. There are contacts on the bottom of the Pad that I didn't even notice before taking out the cradle. Two things I don't like though: (1) It stands up in the cradle. (2) I would normally put the Pad back in the white bag it came in when I was done with it and wanted to charge it. Now it's sitting on the cradle, out in the open and exposed. Seems like it's gonna get all sorts of dusty now.

Mine is full of fingerprints...I hope Nintendo enjoys that at the repair center. lol

Do you think its a bad idea to have this plugged in all the time? I just usually leave it plugged in while i play but I'm worried that may be why it broke down on me...maybe something burned out? But I used to do this with 360 controllers too.

Yeah on day 1 my girlfriend walked into Gamestop and picked up 2 deluxe systems.

I don't think it's a problem. I pretty much leave my 3DS in the cradle all the time and never had any trouble at all. I am concerned your trouble started by playing with it plugged in. I have a sneaking suspicion that something came loose on the inside at the charging port and it could no longer make a connection to the battery or the rest of the Pad.

That is how I have it. At first  I was opposed to it cause i didnt want it charging so much but basically after every time I play it needs to be charged so it works out.

And yeah I have finger prints too. I have a microfiber cloth from the 3DS I use but that seems to move smudges around rather than clean them.

Yup its not very far at all. Hell if its in a big open living room there maybe spots you cant use it. Like say a room that is connected to the kitchen or something.

Hmmm...that's a good theory.

Now that you mention it, I thought the charge port DID feel a bit loose when I plugged the cable in, but I'm not sure if it was like that the whole time I had it or not.
