Hands-On impressions from the American launch:

I arrived at my GameStop at 10:45AM and was second on line! Far cry from waiting out in the cold six years ago!

Set-Up is straight forward. Everything compartmentalized in the box. Hooked up the Power adaptor for the system first. Thank GOD the cords are long enough for me to put the brick on the floor and the cord still reaches the dresser top. Set up the packed-in HDMI cable (nice!)... the Sensor Bar... (God I hate the very existence of this thing!)... and the Power Cord for the GamePad. It also has a little "brick" of it's own and a long enough cord to reach nearly to the center of my bedroom, so positioning won't be a problem! (Nice!)

Turned on the GamePad and was prompted to turn on the system proper and press the 'Sync' button on it. Did that, then 'Sync' on the Pad. Easy enough!

All of the typical menus were there: Language, Time and Date, Internet Set-Up. Setting up the TV control from the GamePad was as easy as inputting the first Letter of the TV Manufacturer and --viola!-- FULL TV control!

Now Updating!

(It's been about 25 minutes and I am about 1/6th of the way done!)

While I wait:

Everything on the inside of the box was wrapped up neat and tight! GamePad was in it's own bag. System was wrapped in clear, sticky cover (like most electronics these days), then in a bag of IT'S own too! Lots of stands included in the box. I'll look at those more closely later!

Updating is moving a tad faster: About 1/3rd of the way after 35 minutes!

Could it be it is taking too long because everyone else is trying to install the update at the same time. I wouldn't beable to get my Wii U until Friday or Saturday when it ships.

SUPER MARIO MAKER LEVELS:

  • SMB Mix-Up! (1AB2-0000-0047-5A7D)
  • Storm the Castle (77BD-0000-00E0-A9C0)

I'm sure that's it. I'm fine with waiting... PS: It's slowed again. Hasn't moved too much in the last 5 minutes at all!

System looks nice in black, if not a rounded off Wii... GamePad looks nice as well. They are both dust and fingerprint magnets, but what can you do?

A tad disappointed in the very Wii-like presentation and Audio coming out of my TV while waiting for the update to happen. What was I expecting? Something a teeny-tiny bit more HD and High Tech, I guess... Once the system actually boots and I see the actual dashboard, I am hoping these minor quibbles are dispelled!

93%...

Looking at the Wii U Controller vs. the 360, you could easily mistake one for the other at a glance. Wii U is much more glossy, but pretty much the same size!

Now posting from my GamePad! (As my Mii juggles on the TV screen.) Oh Nintendo... you sillies!

It's official now (user name) Phantom_Leo is now a registered Nintendo Network name! (Now my Mii is performing magic tricks out of a top hat... ugh.)

NICE keyboard on the GamePad screen, btw...

Tried out Darksiders 2 first as a means to compare.

Yep. Almost exactly like PS3 version. Slightly darker and colors are slightly richer. Port!

NintendoLand is next. I'll post more on each game later!

As I wait for the NintendoLand update:

The Controller fits nicely in your hands... but...

It's kinda... weird. It must be because I am SOOOO used to the 360 Controller and the Dual Shock 3, but the button placement and the right analog seems not well designed at the moment. Having the right stick above the buttons seems to get in the way. Playing Darksiders 2 was un-intuitive. Hopefully this is just an adjustment thing.

Oooo! Update almost done!

Waiting for it to install now.  Hrm

Staring at the Dash of the U while I wait, seeing the mass of Miis staring back at me; C'mon Nintendo... is this REALLY the best you got? It looks so... childish... Maybe once the social aspect gets to be more used...

Starting NintendoLand!!
