I mean seriously. They are awesome. But they've only been around for forty years, so it's not inconceivable to imagine a time when they did not exist.

What would take gheir place in your life?

Me? Movies and manga. I stopped watching movies when I got serious about games (around 2000), before yhen I was a huge movie dude.

Better late than never. A little slow to react, but around the right time I suppose.

I should habe stopped movies earlier? Or gotten addicted to games sooner?

I guess I've always been serious about games really, just not as hopelessly addicted as I've been since '00.

Stopped films earlier, but 2000 isn't bad. Only a few years off. If you want to be a genuine purist/elitist change a few years to a few decades. Nyaa

As someone who's played videogames all his life, and administers a site dedicated to talking about videogames, allow me to blow your mind: I've long not been a big fan.  Basically, they fill a niche for me.  I've always liked sports and games that you'd play interpersonally like board games or card games or anything a bit more active.  But, growing up for sports you needed lots of people so there were leagues.  And what friends I had we had gaming in common, so that was that.  It's one of those things that you can do alone, as well.  So I do, and it serves its purpose well.

So if I didn't have it?  Well, what can I put in its place as something to do on my own?  Maybe I would have gotten into music earlier.  More reading, probably (though videogames helped get me going with reading, so perhaps less Nyaa).

---

Tell me to get back to rewriting this site so it's not horrible on mobile

Jerk.

There was an old blog that already answered that question. I had hoped you would remember. Sad

A more modern answer:

More leg pain, less hand pain.

If I didn't have games I would probably just play guitar constantly and be a much better guitar player like my brother is....then I'd probably be in a band making possibly tons of money and having my girlfriend not need to work would give us tons of time to have sex.

So really, I guess gaming has ruined my life. surprise

I'd read a lot more books if it weren't for video games. Before I started working, I didn't have much money for games, so I spent a lot of time reading books from my local library. I'd read anything that seemed interesting, from just about any genre, fiction and non-fiction. After I got my first job in 1991, I got more into gaming, and far less into books. Gaming became my primary hobby, and most of my reading was gaming releated.  I have come to regret that recently, and have taken strides over the past year to correct that mistake. In fact, I have read more books in the last nine months than I have in nine years, which I believe is a good start. Gaming will always be there for me, but I want it to further explore other aspects of my personality as well.

I would probably get more into comics. I want a Kindle for comics.

I'd like to say that in a world without videogames I would lead a much more productive life. I'd write more, read more, and learn a language. The reality is I'd probably just drink more and watch more tv.

I will say that gaming probably ruined my adolescent social life. I saw more need for saving cash to buy games than using it to go out and drink.

Without video games I'd probably focus on art and music more.

I'd probably weld/ fabricate more. Spend money on cool tube bending and steel cutting equipment.

Yeah, I think I'd be a huge tools dork. I already am, I just don't spend money on the expensive equipment that you only use 2-3 times a year.

I would have expected you to get into even more powder coating.
