Probably the best Halo since the first game, I was seriously surprised with how how good it was all around. I am not a huge Halo fan but this game hit all the right notes.
I finished Halo 4 today. The story was easily the best in any Halo game that I've played. The game was a lot of fun from start to finish. I did feel let down by the final boss battle, though. From a story perspective, it was very good, but the gameplay was severely lacking. I was hoping for an epic boss battle, not a simple QTE. Other than that, great game.
I'm playing it on Hard, which means getting stuck in places, but not convinced I want to turn it down to Normal yet. I am hoping at some point it starts to click and I can turn the tables. I dig the new enemy weapons, though do wish I could get more use out of UNSC gear. At this point in the game they seem to want you to use the opposing side's weaponry.
It's holding up though. Great story, tight gameplay.
^ Heh, I finished the game on Easy. Played about half the game on Normal, though. Anti-Vader Mode, I have.
I'm now replaying Halo 4 on Heroic difficulty. I'm doing better than I thought I would; still dying a lot, though.
I just beat the Infinity level. Wow.
The only area were the game is starting to slip is that the main story line has been pushed to the background and a typical Halo story has emerged. I have no idea what is going on with Plot B at all.
I switched from Hard to Normal, after much thought. The AI is noticably dumber on Normal, but it's still fun. I think Hard will be better for later playthroughs.
It was alright. None of the new Halo games have given me that "I have to play this level over and over!" feeling like Silent Cartographer and Metropolis did, though the Mammoth level was pretty cool. I liked that they went for more of a touching story, though I would have liked more of it. Didn't really enjoy fighting the new enemies or using their weapons.
Listen to Iced Earth and play Doom

I dug the new weapons, they looked cool when they reloaded. The little hand-gun had great reload and packed a punch.
UNSC weapons are still the best though.
I have not played it for a couple of days, I hope to finish it tonight or tomorrow. I have no idea of how deep into the campaign I am, I'm deliberately avoiding FAQs (usually I check to see how deep I am).
Okay, well for me that was by far the best numbered Halo. I have not played ODST or Reach, so maybe the impact of jumping from 3 to 4 has me wearing rose-colored glasses (I don't know how much of this new stuff is brand new and how much of it was in the side stories).
It is a tremendous accomplishment of 343.
I have to say though, by the end, I was thinking it was time or Mast Chief to have a face. Having that really emotional exchange with him wearing his helmet was laughable.

I completely agree.
BTW, if you beat the game on Legendary, and watch all the way through the end credits, you do get to see a 2 second glimpse of Master Chief's eyes. I watched it on Youtube since there's no way in hell I'll ever beat that game on Legendary.

Exactly. Identi-kit style.
So here it is.
I'm an hour or so into it so far.
First impressions:
About as good as Bulletstorm so far, with human drama replacing the humor.
