- Pink Panther vs Batman - Super easy,,,
- Back to the Future vs ET - BTTF is one of my all time favorites, incredibly epic. ET not so much
- The Godfather vs Superman - Superman is the best superhero theme, godfathers theme just doesn't do it for me.
- Psycho vs LOTR Fellowship - This is just preference, I know Psycho is way more iconic than LOTRs theme.
- Indiana Jones vs Halloween - No contest
- Empire Strikes Back vs Jaws - Imperial March is too good
- James Bond vs Jurassic Park - Damn this is tough but I am a John Williams guy and JP is one of my favorites, sorry Bond.
- Ghostbusters vs Rocky - What the hell. The Rocky theme is so incredible, so engrained into the fabric of our lives, every single exercise playlist has this theme... but its GHOSTBUSTERS.

Tell me to get back to rewriting this site so it's not horrible on mobileWhat I look for in a great movie theme is instant memorization. If I see a movie once and I leave the theater already humming the theme it is a pretty fantastic theme. I have seen Avengers twice, i dont remember the theme, its not that great. Watch Superman once, you know that theme by heart, all time classic.
The theme also needs to improve the movie experience, it needs to make every scene it plays in stand out more than all the others. The audience must long for the theme, it is so good you cannot wait for it to play during the movie. Imagine Back to the Future without that theme. BTTF is basically a comedy but when they play that theme it becomes an EPIC adventure movie, the movie would simply not be the same without it. You know whats my favorite part of LOTR Fellowship, when they are in Moria and they kill the troll and they hear the goblins coming so they run out and THAT THEME PLAYS! Goosebumps run through your body as that perfect marraige of scene and theme come together. That theme comes back into play at the end of RotK when Aragorn is leading his men to certain death and he looks back and says "for Frodo" and they charge to their death, THAT THEME plays, MY GOD so incredible.
And last it needs to be one of the first things that pop into your head when you think about the movie. It needs to be one with the movie.
- Pink Panther
- Back to the Future
- The Godfather
- Psycho
- Indiana Jones
- Jaws
- James Bond

Use the other threads to listen to the music but seriously you should know these... Part 1, Part 2

Looking at them, I mean the follwoing songs are all really just the same song uperman, Indy, Empire, Jurassic Park.
I like Pink Panther, but I think Bond covers the same territory, and really it's just catchy jingle. Ghostbusters is great, but just a pop-song. Psycho, Rocky and Godfather are the stand-outs on this list for me.
What makes a great theme? Two things, simple and memorability. I still recall the haunting theme to The Piano, but nothing really about the film.
Simple and memorability? Sounds like you just described a "catchy jingle".

.
So you think all John Williams sounds the same. He does have a certain sound but each of those are great in their own way. Thanks for answering the question, no one else did.
I wish I had a better understanding of music so I could express myself better.

I know, I can pick out music by John Williams from a group of songs, he is very recognizable.
