What are some good and bad purchases you've made recently (in the last coiuple of years).

For me, and this is probably not the best, but I feel good about it:

A decent camera that is not a phone. It's been a great value and re-defined the importance of photography as a choice rather than a reflexive action.

In the bad category:

Sonos wireless speakers. I overpaid and never use them. I had to set up a seperate router for them and it takes too much work to use them.

They don;t work with bluetoothm adn even though they are a decent speaker there is no way to use them as a standalone speaker, you have to go through wi-fi. Boo!

Good: PS4 Pro

Really nice machine, a decent bump up from the base model on a 4k TV. Hooked an 8TB external drive up to it for infinite space.

Destiny 2 gets limited edition Glacier White PS4 Pro ...

Bad: PS4 Pro

It's not a giant upgrade & I could have easily just saved myself the money and kept the OG system.

Motivated by this post I got the @#$%ing things working this morning after 4 hours of fiddling. And they still only work in a very limited circumstance (the Sonos speakers).

A bad purchase I think I've responsibly dodged is a PS4 VR set. I'm not saying they are bad, but given that most of the content would only be accessible to me via download and my already limited amount of time to play it just would not have gotten a fair shake with me.

DSLRs are the next best things to SLRs. A wise purchase.

Good:

Tally Ho soy burger patties. People seem prejudiced against soy burgers, but unless you're out there hunting your own cows then cleaning and mincing the meat yourself in the wild, most of the flavour in your beef patty is from fermentation anyway, so they really do taste quite similar to beef patties; but better, unless you're on the waiting list of a local hobby farm.

Bad:

The Wizard of Oz The First Five Novels 2011 Barnes and Nobles edition.

This isn't a bad purchase at all, it's an excellent compilation. But I didn't do due dilligence, and the illustrations are in black and white. And with that, I think I'll give up on my dreams of composing a collection of coloured o.g. illustration Oz books, as with the abundance of facsimile books it's very difficult to find what you're after. Plus I have an exceptional hard cover edition of the first book, which is the only Oz book that's truly worth the time and effort (and money)*. Not to mention they should all be on the internet with o.g. colour illustrations for free...and Neil is no Denslow.

*Many of the others are great, but the original is arguably the greatest American novel ever.

Should get this. It's cheap, battery lasts forever. Easy to move from room to room in the palm of your hand. Suprisingly great sound and volume. Works with your bluetooth phone/PC. On the downside, it's only sold on Amazon UK, not the US or AU amazon.

Ebay perhaps? It's usb charged so you don't have to worry about adapters etc.

Sorry to hear the Sonos speakers didn't work out for you.  As for camera's, we own a compact digital camera, but we hardly take it with us anymore.  With all the stuff we're always packing because of the kids, it's just that one item too many to bother taking with us.

I haven't made many noteworthy purchases of late, but here it goes:

good: new volley shoes.  My old ones have been due for replacement for over a year, but as stores that sell volley shoes are very few, I never got around to actually going out to get some.  Now I have.

bad: XboneX.  It's a sleek system, but as someone who games on a 7-year old 1080p screen, I'm really not getting any extra value out of it.  The controller is also full black, which is much more boring than the sleek white one that came bundled with the S.

^Shoes are a easy updgrade, I alway always put off replacement way too long -- and there is no reason for it other than priorities of time I guess.
