I don't want another third person Metroid on consoles ever again. I wouldn't mind third person controls on a handheld though.
As far as Zelda goes, I'm thinking something like the futuristic FF games in setting. Zelda already does time travel, how about a Zelda game where Link really travels to the future Hyrule with robots and yes, maybe high tech swords, armor, weapons. Sounds outlandish, but it could be done right. Maybe even a dystopic view of the future where Link has to prevent certain actions from taking place to change things for the better.

Future Zelda would be so incredible. First the obvious changes, no horse instead you get a spaceship. Your sword is of course a lightsaber. Screw bow and arrow you get a laser gun. I know you are scared of a Zelda game with guns, it does not need to be a cover shooter, the lasers can act just like projectile attacks have always worked in Zelda games. You get an energy shield that is upgradable that allows you to deflect lasers.
The game world could be one planet but if we're up to me I would go full space travel. Each planet is a either a dungeon of a town, or has some mini game. I would say take the best elements of WWs exploration and SS flight and put them together but in space.have space battles, ship racing mini games, asteroid belt avoidance moments, even ship upgrades that you can find to reach new planets.
The core gameplay I would make faster paced and focus on maneuverability. Link has always been a very stiff and grounds character, verticality is not a big part of Zelda. This link will move quicker, jump and even get a hover pack to fly around a bit. Combat is faster paced, not exactly DMC fast but more that pace. I would greatly expand on the sword play add more combos and defensive capabilities. As always items will play a role in combat for certain enemies.
In terms of items I would make the main item of the game revolve around gravity, whether its boots or some polarity reversal gun, something where gravity plays a huge part. I want dungeons where the ceiling is part of the dungeon and flipping the world around helps you navigate. Other items can deal with teleportation, maybe a portal like gun. Bombs can stay the same just be scifi bombs.
Everything else tags the same, it's all about exploration action and puzzle solving. Dungeons are basically the same though I would make them less linear. I would add a hard mode to allow the improved action to shine. No handholding during puzzles, with gravity thrown into the mix the puzzles could be very difficult, make us think again.

Was Other M that bad? What would the environment be like? Post apocalyptic? Cities? Deserts between cities? Who would Ganon be? An evil CEO? Dungeons would be what, temples in the future would be either skyscrapers by then or tourist attractions? Are we talking Steampunk here or Blade Runner future?

Noooooooo! Galaxy Rangers robot horse FTW. Wait... the Master Lightsaber? Nooooo! Oh man laser guns and holoshields sounds like my worst nightmare come true. Space travel? This is starting to sound like mass effect. DMC combat? Holy hell, sweet Jesus save me from this abomination! "I want dungeons where the ceiling is part of the dungeon" Like Twilight princess? I think any future based zelda has to be FF style or I'll have a heart attack. Metroid ideas?

Agreed!
And Yoda please bring back the minus button. We need to minus Vader's post!

You liked Mario Galaxy right? When are you going to try Metroid Prime or Zelda?

Dunno, aren't those games pretty hard?

Not really. They are mostly very well balanced in the learning curve with well worked controls. If you want an easy intro to the Zelda universe, Wind Waker GC will run on your Wii if you have a GC pad or memory card. But it's not the best or most classical style Zelda game. Prime 3 is probably the most managable Metroid Prime to play. Try them out, they are probably cheap by now.

You'd buy it in a heart beat.

What is the point of doing future Zelda and not having lightsabers? I guess to you guys future means now, cyberpunk. So boring, lets go straight up sci-if Zelda. What Star Wars does so well is that it's actually a fantasy story told in a sci-if setting, Zelda could do the same thing.
Anyway none of that matters as long as the gameplay is improved and this kind if Zelda game would present a ton of new ideas to reinvigorate the franchise. It doesn't need to be in the future to incorporate, the franchise needs some new combat an exploration ideas regardless of setting.
This is how I would do Metroid. Its going to be a lot like Prime cause Prime is practically perfect but in third person with an emphasis on combat. I would use the wiimote with nunchuck and put a targetting cursor on the screen, you can free aim at anything on the screen while moving Samus in any direction you want (her animation will have her doing all sorts of spin shots and whatever needed to shoot at the enemies you point at). The camera would be loose but for the most part settle behind her, if the action gets hectic its possible to zoom out more to allow shooting in all directions. Outside of aimingt well your responsibility will be to keep Samus out of danger with all sorts of dodge rolls, jump evades, etc. Enemies will attack relentlessly, think of the combat like Sin and Punishment but you have full control of your character and it takes place in a large game areas so you may explore. You can have a sort of soft lock on so that the camera zooms over the shoulder to an enemy, you will still have to accurately aim to hit it. Think about all the flying bug like monsters and how they can zip around quick, thats the kind of stuff you will have to be dealing with.
As you play you gain all the usual upgrades and new lasers, switching on the fly will be the key to success. Enemies will come out with all kinds of defenses, some shielded from blaster fire, some have to be hit with missles first. Nothing really new just taken to more of an extreme.
The structure of the game world will practically be just like Prime. I would set it on Zebes just so we can see that classic world brought to live. Having it in third persons would allow for better platforming so I would have tons of jumps, grapple beam swings and of course speed running. It wont be stupidly linear like Other M. It wont limit your items like Other M. it wont have melee combat like Other M. It wont have crap tastic aiming like Other M. Its NOTHING like Other M. More like Prime with much faster paced action but still revolving around shooting your beam which is the core combat mechanic of Metroid.

Samus is a girl?!
That's sounds good, Vader. I never understood why Team Ninja wouldn't allow you to use whatever weapon you wanted when you acquired it. I still prefer the Prime games. I love their sense of exploration. Retro perfected the exploration aspect. In fact, the only thing the Prime games can't really pull off is the speed running.
I don't want any of these things. I want new franchises with fresh new ideas.
Let Zelda go.
Let Metroid go.
Let them rest.
Lets see some new things.
So how would Zelda work being set in the future? What would the world be like? What would the story be? How would the Zelda gameplay be maintained in this new world? Would there be guns? Laser Swords?
In the future would there be more civilisation? A city environment? How would dungeons work in the future?
I see people asking for a 3rd person Metroid but not like Other M, so how would that work? What would the controls be like? Would it just be Prime 3 in 3rd person?
