With a couple days gone by to digest everything I can say that this was a very good E3. Not great, but by no means a disappointment. While I can't say a single prediction of mine came through, and there was no shortage of disappointments (hi there Capcom and Square-Enix. You suck ass.), overall I was pleased with what was shown this E3. Nintendo came out swinging, and delivered a genuinally fun show to watch. Sony announced three and a half assloads worth of games, and even announced the Playstation TV for the West (nicely done on dropping the Vita name from it). EA has a new Sims which made the wife happy. And even though they were on autopilot it seemed Microsoft showed off Dragon Age and the Witcher which looked incredibly good.

My Top 10 favorite features of the show in no particular order were:

  • Code Name: Steam (I've already resigned myself to knowing this will be the closest I see of Valkyria Chronciles again)
  • Captain Toad's Treasure Tracker
  • Witcher 3
  • The new Zelda (the brief clip manages to get better each time you see it too)
  • Bayonetta 1 & 2 combo
  • Far Cry 4
  • Dragon Age Inquisition (I'll never play this of course, but wow is it nice to look at)
  • Fantasy Life
  • Pac-Man in Smash (how was this not bigger than Plalutina being added?)
  • Playstation TV
  • Little Big Planet 3

And an honorable mention goes out to Harvest Mooncraft: Lost Valley Story

  1. Rise of the Tomb Raider - Did you expect anything else in my #1 spot?
  2. Uncharted 4 - What can I say? I have a non-sexual man crush on Nathan Drake.
  3. Bayonetta 1 & 2 - B2 looks amazing, and having B1 included is a very nice touch (I only have the crappy PS3 version).
  4. Captain Toad's Treasure Tracker - At first, I had little interest, but then I replayed a couple of the Toad levels in SM3DWorld. Yeah, this will be fun.
  5. Yoshi's Wooly World - It's too goddamned cute to pass up. They better keep their word on it being challenging.
  6. Zelda U - I really like the sound of an open world Zelda game. Graphics look amazing. I'm very hit or miss on Zelda games, but I do hope I will enjoy this one.
  7. Kirby and the Rainbow Curse - The only Kirby games that I have really enjoyed to date was the GB original, and Kirby's Canvas Curse. Hopefully, this will add a third one to my list.
  8. Star Fox U - Don't fuck it up, Miyamoto!
  9. Hyrule Warriors - Never played the Dynasty Warriors series this game is based on, but it does look like mindless fun. And we can play as Zelda and Minda! How badass is that?
  10. Smash Bros. - Not sold on this one yet. I'll depend on how stable the online play will be. Pac-Man as a playable character rocks!
  11. Splatoon - Certainly the most interesting online FPS I've seen so far, but I'm not sold on it yet either. It has piqued my interest, though. It all depends on what the other gameplay modes and SP Champaign are like. I really want to support Nintendo's new IPs.

I think it's safe to say Nintendo ruled my E3 this year. It just took me a week to realize it.

Did they show any in-game footage of Rise of Tomb Raider? The trailer for it did look great. Kind of wish it was for a movie.

Has Nintendo said anything about being able to download other players Mario Maker levels?

Really for me Captain Toad over everything else. Everything else was either too far away or too little was shown. I mean we got a new Starfox announced, megaton right, but with no footage it was Miyamoto controlling N64 graphics with a U pad.

I think what crystallised for me was that if you own a Wii U you will have to get another console to experience all the content not coming to it. But on the other hand if you own a PS4 or X1, you have to own a Wii U for the same reasons. E3 was okay this year, much better than last year on the whole.

My least favorite announcement was Project Spark has Conker.

I was interested in Project Spark before they tricked us into thinking we where getting a new Conker game just for Conker to say "It's been ten years since my last game, guess we have to make it ourselves."

Oh yeah and I was probably a bit disingenous with Ubisoft and their conference, bitter about Wii U support I guess. I must admit, FC4 looks great, free flowing combat is what I like in FPS, not corridors and staging. AC Unity looked good, but about the same as any other AC reveal, I'm still waiting to see what makes ACU next gen other than putting in more NPCs.

The only other game that struck me was Rainbow Six, which does look good but probably not my kind of game though I did own and play one of them on OGxbox and it was fun for a while. It's a shame that game in particular isn't on Wii U as having a huge touchscreen display and map etc would have allowed for some great planning and execution of strategies.

I gotta say, what i left E3 with was that 2014 (had to check that was the current year) will go down as one of the worst years for new game releases in the the 21st century (thus far).

And that ultimately, I am happy with most of where gaming is right now.

Nintendo continues to build a compelling case, and if I were still in North America I would have bought one.

The indie scene continues to produce promise.

While AAA titles spin off into their own orbit of irrevelance (the world can get tangled up in Titanfall, Assassin's Creed, Watchdogs, Destiny until they are purple in the face), it ain't me babe.

PS4 and XB1 still have to prove supremacy over the PC until proven otherwise and the Vita is the prettiest girl in the room who no-one approaches because she is so smart.

Did I say I was happy?
