Bought Samurai Shodown V Special on steam instead. 10 bucks, has rollback for netplay, not made by a hack.

I started on hard, oh damn I’ve made a mistake. It is brutal on hard, the bosses do so much damage, I’m dying constantly. I feel like I’m playing sekiro. But it’s good classic igavania, love the shard system. I’m finding secrets around, I like all the various weapons. It’s great.

The woman? The sword? The blood? What? Explain!

It’s obviously because it’s a nightly ritual with scented candles and all.

Vader already described it above.

Note the sword is one-handed.

But if it is a bloodstained ritual of the night, he might be doing it wrong.
Made some progress....the game is fantastic. Totally feels like part of the Castlevania series. Beautiful artwork.
Played a crap ton of this last night under a blood red moon, and boy is it fantastic! Saw Vader playing it for quite a while as well. It definitely has that Vania thing to it, where the more you play the more you want to keep going...constantly gaining new abilities, finding new areas, coming across new challenges etc.
I'll of course always prefer Castlevania to this or any game like it, just because Vania'a vibe and gothic attitude can't be topped. But this is just about as close as it gets. So glad to finally have a new game on console like this. Here's hoping for a Vania port of all the GBA/DS games soon.
Deep into this now, seems to be a culmination of all his games with a SOTN template for the castle. I am kind of shocked how similar to SOTN it is. There are almost no new ideas here, for the most part it’s a very by the book igavania but they are all great fun. Playing on hard has made it quite brutal which I like, I really need to commit to learn the bosses and mix and match all my tons of shards to see what works best. I wish the music was better though.
This is taking me a long time, hard mode is for sure the way to go. I have to actually plan out my strategies and farm a little for the best loadouts. There are soooo many options, crazy weapons with super powers, shards that let you summon dragons and shit. The possibilities are endless and it’s up to you to mix and match for the best build for each boss. Level design is a bit uneven, par for the course for a CV game. New Metroidvanias have really stepped up the level design to include platforming challenges based on new skills, not so here. Still this is easily one of the best Iga games.
One of the most famous and popular kickstarter projects is finally coming out! Iga's new fake Castlavania, Bloodstained! It's been a long time since Order of Ecclasia, over 10 YEARS, TEN! Crazy to think we have waited this long. Since that time there have been so so so many metriodvanias, some excellent but they don't capture that magic of Castlavania games have. Let's hope this is as good as all those fantastic CV games.
