So what has been your experience with new IP this gen and how do they stack up to other generations?
Pretty terrible. We got watch dogs, I liked it but it's nothing new. Destiny still a huge work in progress. Splatoon probably the best new IP. Overwatch everyone seems to like. Loads of indie stuff that may never see sequels.
There is nothing like Assassins creed, uncharted, gears of war, dark souls, mass effect, dragon age.
Since I only have a Wii Poo and 3DS, all I can think of is Captain Toad and Splatoon.
Both were pretty great and high quality, very polished. Splatoon seems like a breakout hit.
Pushmo 3DS was cool, in 3D. The Wii U version just doesn't feel the same in 2D.
There was Wonderful 101, I only got through half of it, cool game I just had to delete it for HDD space.
Lego City was great fun, like a gaming equivalent of the Naked Gun movies.
Zombi U was very good, sadly underappreciated by the Press which killed it.
So when you say IP, do you mean stuff that'll blossom into a franchise, or are commercial failures and one-of games also good? Because of all those you listed, I can see only Splatoon becoming a franchise in its own right.

Any new game really, but yeah, ones that did well enough to get sequels if we're talking about breeding an IP as a money making exercise.
Some great one offs and indie stuff, aside, a lot of garbage.
Watchdogs is trash
Destiny is a mind numbing skinner box, which could at least be argued that it's genre of loot rpg is just supremely shit, but fuck that even as a shooter it's a fucking mess. It's same round of bungie shitty level design paired with a multiplayer that absolutely eats, and they fucking made Halo. Where did the people who made Halo go? The game is basically Halo with hoods as it is
The Division? It's destiny, slightly better loot game, except at least destiny is the race for the best space weapon. Division is the race for the best ak47 in the world. Yeah, what the shit.
Bloodborne - it's dickensian dark souls
Drive club - i can't believe it's not forza
Order - Gears of Yore
The two best new ips this gen that had a bit of a marketing campaign behind them, were by Blizzard (Overwatch) who hasn't been doing new shit voer over a decade now, and fucking Nintendo (Splatoon) who is historically conservative as all hell when it comes to their actual game making.
Last gen had a bunch of new ips that were straight trash too: Dragon Age is a thing, The mass effect were sorry excuses for rpgs, Uncharted had like one good game out of 3 entries, there is no such thing as a good Assassin's Creed game. But we also got Demon's Souls and Dark Souls, Dead Rising was actually pretty rad, Company of Heroes gave us one of the best strategy campaigns since fucking Jagged Alliance, FEAR was amazing and then it got sequels, Crysis was beast, and then it got sequels. Portal was divine, and it's sequel was pretty good, Saints Row came out of nowhere and grew into this weird thing, Uncharted at least got us to Uncharted 2, and The Last of Us was a thing. Cliff B went from making dope ass Unreal Tournament to Gears of War, not as good as Unreal, but a damn good game regardless.
And yeah in between bad ips like Assassin's Creed where at least brand fucking new, and yeah Mass Effects universe up until its shit ending was good (the playing it part? Not so much).
Point: If actually think about games I like this gen, a lot of them actually aren't sequels, they just dont' come from Triple A companies, because that side of gaming kind of sucks.
Titanfall was at least cool, just light on content, and pretty low skill ceiling.
Sometimes I wonder if Gagan likes anything. He's the opposite of Archie. lol
There are no new franchises...just sequels and remasters. Watch Dogs was good, but Ass Creed was better. Shadow of Mordor was really good. Destiny is good but could be better. There's really not ONE new franchise that I can say is going to be remembered as a classic or anything.

Splatoon. You just didn't play it.

I'm waiting on the remastered version. lol
robio said:Don't forget Affordable Space Adventures... which is actually quite boring and not worth playing without a second character. But it's new all the same.
How far in did you get?

Can anyone think of a new IP that has wowed them on the same level as a new IP did on past systems?
I know I found a lot of N64 games wow like because it was the first 3D era. But then on the PS2 era and Wii/360 etc era I can think of wow experiences there too.
This gen..... well I haven't played as much from other systems. Is there anything on there that has wowed anyone?

Honestly I do not remember. Probably an hour or a little more. It was just so damned dull I could not push myself to play anymore.

Fast Racing Neo. The impression of speed in that game is unparallelled. And that's coming from a man who, to coin a popular phrase, 'platinumed' *shudder* F-zero GX.

It gets much better later on though, with some clever puzzles where you're not only tasked with working out the solution, but where you're dexterity is also heavily challenged as you juggle your on-board systems. But yeah, the early parts are increadibly easy and drag on a bit too long.
travo said:I can't remember, is Rocket League a new ip?
technically it isn't, since it's basically the same game as "supersonic acrobatic rocket powered battle cars" by the same studio. Still I guess Rocket League is one of the strongest contenders for 'new IP' this gen.
