I'll be getting a Pro. The Jasper chipset isn't showing up in huge numbers in the Elites yet, and I don't want to pay $100 more, essentially just for more hard drive space. I'd pretty much have to be convinced that installing most of my games to the hard drive to avoid heat issues (e.g. RRoD, and probably the E74) is worth the extra $100, since this chipset is the most reliable yet (I'll just have to be sure to keep it cool).
The only thing I'll definitely need space for is DLC -- the GTAIV and Fallout 3 DLC played a big role in my decision to go with the 360 over the PS3, but then there was also price, more appealing exclusives, and the fact that the 360's other deadly error (E74) is now covered by the 3-year warranty (I posted the link to that article... I was so excited by the news). While I'm still going to hate my console dying on me, if it does, it's pretty much a guarantee that the issue can be resolved without me having to dole out more money for repairs... and that continued spending is what's been putting me off for a while, besides not really having the money.
In case no one quite comprehended what's going on, I'm selling my Wii to my best friend. It'll be in installments, which is why I'll be getting the 360 in the summer and not sooner, assuming I can find a Jasper Pro around here. At some point I'll replace Twilight Princess and RE4 with their alternate, equivalent versions (GC and PS2, respectively, though I have the GC version of RE4, so I can still enjoy the main game). The only truly huge, irreplaceable casualty, therefore, is Brawl, but I'll still be able to play it up until my friend and I move away from each other after he graduates from our university in a year. Plus, I own Melee, which is a far more competitive game, though I wish the stages and music from Brawl were present. Ironically, since my dorm's wireless network doesn't support the Wii and my friend has a wireless connection, you guys actually have a better chance at brawling against me now that the Wii will belong to someone else.
The title of this post was in reference to Raven's similar "defection" earlier, if no one caught that. The reasons for the sale appear metaphorically in the blog post, but to make them explicit: the Wii's library just wasn't doing it for me--whatever new games looked good, I just couldn't get myself to buy them, as I felt that the money would be better spent on games I had a genuine and far greater interest in... most of which appear on the other systems. And there are enough console exclusives that I'd rather get a new console than upgrade my PC (I don't take good care of my computer, anyway... you should see the hard drive fragmentation and scattered files!). Add in my everpresent impatience and the fact that most of the money I get from jobs from here on out should be spent on a car, a place to live, paying back loan money, etc., and, well... I just felt like selling. I was sick of missing out on so much. If I want to play any Wii games in next year or so, I'll just borrow the system from my friend and rent the games (like the new Silent Hill if it's any good, and the inevitable new Zelda).
Anyway, I think I'll end this book-length post now.

P.S. be sure your friend buys all the games you was afraid to buy, you can have your cake and eat it too.
And get a job, after you done! So you can play all the consoles and games you want. Or become a hooker. You need money!!

I thought you were going back to gamespot for good and leaving our revolution here.
Did you ever play HOTD? If not then you just missed out on a game better than the entire 360's library put together.
Umbrella Chronicles showed me that I don't really care enough for light gun games to buy any more of them... except possibly Darkside Chronicles. Of course, I ONLY bought UC because it was Resident Evil.
I was able to figure it out. I like blogs that are like games.

I still think you guys should have waited a few weeks till E3. Isn't it like 6 weeks away?
Beaveman, does your friend have lot's of money? If he has it might be smart to let him buy the 360! Or you could trick him to buy lot's of Wii games, both will work out!
It's not like I didn't consider waiting for E3. One of the other problems I have with Nintendo, in addition to the Wii-specific problems I mentioned in my long post on the first page of the comments, is that they keep their cards extremely close to their chest. I don't want to hold onto a console just because I'm not sure of what's coming up.
And with Nintendo this gen, what's coming up is likely to not interest me at all, or if it does, it'll only be one or two games at most. With the exception of Okami, I'm not really into niche games at all (if Okami can really be considered niche). I have absolutely no problem with the standard fare, and in fact, that's what I want; unlike many of you guys, I never had the fortune of having tons of games each gen, so there was never a big chance for my interest in standard games to wane. I never feel jaded... just bored due to not having a new game when I'm ready for one.
For standard games, I might as well go with another system. If a person doesn't want niche, but likes Nintendo's own games, Nintendo has only exacerbated the "buy a Nintendo console for Nintendo games only" problem that they had with their last two systems--if people want standard games, the problem has been made worse this gen.
I'll tell you what known Wii software, besides most of what I already bought, I see as worth my money in the future: Zelda, and possibly the new Silent Hill. That's it. Everything else is too uncertain, completely unlike the situation with the other consoles.

If they want any of my money next gen, they're going to have to prove to me that they really want it, because I'm tired of playing the waiting game over and over with them. Nah, he doesn't have lots of money. But he loves Smash Bros., just like me, and he likes the Wii remote idea/implementation. There are a few other games I had that he likes, too, and he doesn't buy many console games each gen, anyway (he told me, this isn't just a guess), so he doesn't mind. He's primarily a PC gamer, too, which means he won't be as disappointed as I am with the Wii's current--and probably future--library.
Dammit find a rich friend!
