They could post 100 days of articles saying the game is utter crap and I'd still buy it for $50 USD. Those screens are pretty sweet.

Anyone who thinks No More Heroes is awful game has no heart. Anyone who thinks it's a great game has no brains.

 So true actually.

It's one of those games that needs a lot of polish. It's like a rough gem.

Really rough Nyaa

So where is the next 1up story then? They said 5 days but are they only counting weekdays?

Suda51 clarifies - next NMH for Wii plus

1up coverage continues

Goichi Suda Interview
Sexy action month, going to Tokyo DisneySea with Alex Ward, wrestling in Mexico, signing a Bring Back WrestleFest petition, and the future of No More Heroes.

Snippets:

1UP: You mentioned once that No More Heroes 2 would be the last game in the series on Wii. Have you done any experiments on what it might be like on another platform, especially with the new motion controllers that have been announced for other systems?

GS: Actually, I answered differently, and it may have been misinterpreted. What I wanted to say was, looking at the Wii, I think No More Heroes 2 will probably be the last iteration for this current platform. But there's probably going to be a "Wii 2" or other next-gen system from Nintendo at some point, so I was saying that I would want to do another game in the series on the next Nintendo platform.

I want to continue the No More Heroes series, but I've finished the story for Travis. It's completely finished in No More Heroes 2. So I want to think of a different story -- a different character, or something like that within the series -- starting on the next Nintendo platform.

1UP: If that didn't exist?

GS: I think it would be a fun experience. I'm enjoying creating a game with Mikami a lot [Grasshopper's other game at the moment is a collaboration with Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami], and there's no language barrier. There is some stress there, since Mikami is a very strict person, and I have criticisms and strictness in me, too, but I'm enjoying everything as a whole.

But Will There Be No More No More Heroes?

500x_sudasword.jpg

"I originally didn't want to make another No More Heroes," says game designer Goichi Suda. The game was supposed to be a one off dealio, but when the title did well, sequels do happen.

"It's not just that," Suda explains. "I wanted to revisit Travis Touchdown. I wanted to write the continuation of his story." NMH lead hero Travis Touchdown is joined by more characters and boss battles this go round in No More Heroes: Desperate Struggle. The title has been in development for about a year and a half and is shooting for an early 2010 release.

"Right now, I don't think I'll make another one, though," says Suda. "This game does wrap up Travis' story nicely." But so many movies are in trilogies — a point that movie buff Suda is quick to concede.

With the advent of Sony's new wand-like motion controls, it would not be a stretch to see something like No More Heroes ported over to the PS3. "I'm not playing platform favorites," says Suda. "For me, No More Heroes is about two handed controls — the way you play. But I do very much think of the game as being a Wii title."

I...have one. Right here. It's not really fluorescent, but it does the work.

With a glowing laser blade in each hand, the options afforded in combat have multiplied. Action sequences become a kinetic, technicolour blur with some of the prettiest graphics we've seen on the Wii. Purists can opt to stick with one katana, but with the combat options and potential for carnage offered by two, we think they'll be in the minority. Series creator Suda 51 also promises some tasty new wrestling moves, inspired by Travis' fascination with lucha libre grapplers.

Meanwhile, an upgraded physics system means that Travis is free to hurl his enemies through furniture, into walls and over high ledges. Enemies have apparently been busy taking martial arts classes, with new AI meaning combat will flow better, and foes changing their tactics on the fly to cope with your attacks.

The team thankfully seem to have taken criticisms of the first game's free roaming sections to heart. No More Heroes' hub city of Santa Destroy was a large but rather desolate place, completely bereft of soul or life. The Wii's very own Milton Keynes, if you will.
A handy plot twist means that Santa Destroy has been rebuilt by the Pizza Butt corporation, and though smaller than in the original game, the promise is that the open world sections are now packed with activities and civilians, who will leap out of the way as you speed past, giving the open areas the feel of the Crazy Taxi games, rather than bargain basement GTA.

Other innovations are promised, with Suda 51 claiming that his team now have the experience and technical know-how to push the Wii to its very limits, with motion blur, HDR lighting and depth of field for you techy types to go all dewy eyed over.

Though not nearly finished, we're hugely excited about No More Heroes 2. It's looking loud, brash and offensive, yet funny, charming and really rather beautiful. We expect nothing short of demented genius when Grasshopper unleashes it in early 2010.
