As discussed in my blog on the subject, Ireland passed the blasphemy law.  Thusly, please take this opportunity to be as completely and utterly offensive as possible to as many and all religions as humanly possible.  Preferably simultaneously.

Blasphemy from Ireland

That'll do, pincushion Jesus.  That'll do.

That's a tough act to follow, but I think Pat Condell is up to the task

Why on earth isn't that a picture? Sad

Wtf. I posted two pictures and they both entirely disappeared out of my posts, without even an edit showing up. It's not like somebody noticed I was hotlinking and took the pictures down, the post itself is just GONE. Allah works in mysterious ways.

Well, you aren't going anywhere this time Mister Oinks. I will host you myself.

Yes. I wholeheartedly agree.

Being mad about the whole freedom of speech thing is understandable, but this is just the wrong way to express ones anger over this whole thing.

Why, thank you.

The Great Desecration, old but still relevant.  Here is the lead up.

Do note that despite the thesis statement of the thread to be as offensive as possible, essentially it's a topic of silly pictures.

Jesus Busters!

And yes, it is the right way to go about it.  This is not just about a rights issue, but a criminal issue.  It's a law.  Contrast this topic.  What people are doing here, despite braking this law in the most flagrant and egregious way.  A $35,000 fine for posting this:

Oh look, a picture

Is this comparable to, you know, a real crime?

Kind of the point.

From the prior link I provided,

desecrated.jpg

By the way, I didn't want to single out just the cracker, so I nailed it to a few ripped-out pages from the Qur'an and The God Delusion. They are just paper. Nothing must be held sacred. Question everything. God is not great, Jesus is not your lord, you are not disciples of any charismatic prophet. You are all human beings who must make your way through your life by thinking and learning, and you have the job of advancing humanity's knowledge by winnowing out the errors of past generations and finding deeper understanding of reality. You will not find wisdom in rituals and sacraments and dogma, which build only self-satisfied ignorance, but you can find truth by looking at your world with fresh eyes and a questioning mind.

This is not about individuals or individual groups.  It's not the "We hate Christians" thread, or the "Muslims suck" thread or the "Stupid Jainists" thread or the "Stone Atheists" thread.  It's the Blasphemy Thread.  Blasphemy is an imaginary concept; it's not offense to a human, it's offense to a deity.  Calling blasphemy offensive is in fact a misnomer, because to take offense is to take offense on behalf of a god.  It's not a slight to an individual, nor is it limited to anything specific.

I also don't really care how loosely the term blasphemy is taken.  Post some demolished PS3s as an affront to Ken Kutaragi.  It's that regardless of who takes offense, it's expression.  It's paper.  It's Jesus with Christmas lights.  It's a plush pig Mohammed.

Despite it being posted in jest, Iga finding offense in your offense is exactly the point.  The blasphemy law comes from religion taking its place on a pedestal when it comes to discussion, that because of this offense that people find from the most innocuous of comments, and is taken to the greatest extreme.  It ignores the offense that I may take at the attempted destruction of the American science education curriculum in the name of God, at the hands of ignorance.  Yet we do not silence them.
