I've done 27 shrines. Just got my climbing gear. Did that survival island. That was intense.

Yeah I did that part. I used a lighter one handed weapon because each hit with the heavier two handed ones gave the ball too much kinetic energy. It's easier to fine tune the energy with a lighter weapon. I think 11 hits was the right amount.

Doh!

I have nothing cause I keep exploring random place s that are all starting to blend together. The core exploration activities of korok seeds, enemy bases, sleeping Giants all start to repeat a lot. While these areas are massive and beautiful I still find something like any of the core regions in MM to be more interesting as everything in those places is unique and deliberately designed. I am going to the rito land now so I assume great things there. But I have played enough to know I prefer the older zelda style more than this.

Nintendo was unable to really top what they did in those N64 classics. I mean they tried 3 times....all great games but none of them came close to leaving the mark that Ocarina and Majora left. It was time for a change but it sounds like Zelda runs into the same issue that EVERY open world game has. Repetition.

Ninty, you might want to download the U version.  My digita copy seems to have less issues than the physical.

I'm now a few hours into Zelda.

So far, I really wish they would have went this direction with Skyward Sword. WW and TP were nice N64 tributes during the Cube era, but SS felt a bit stale and too much of the same. This game feels like a breath of wild fresh air. It would have been neat if they had dived into the open world thing back in 2011 when it was getting big but better late than never.

Other than maybe looking slightly less sharp and having a slightly worse frame rate, I gotta say I'm more than happy I didn't drop $300 bones on a Switch just to play this. It runs fine on the Wii U. In fact, more than fine...it's one of the better playing games on the console. I'm loving the whole presentation and cinematic feel of the game...they're really capturing that Lord of the Rings kind of vibe here. So no complaints from me so far.

I really hope these assholes keep pushing more of their franchises in this way...I mean fuck, bring back Metroid in an open world (or universe) setting for the love of the gods!!

Well said, SS was too restrictive for my tastes.  Some areas felt like Metroid corridors.  This game however is just phenomenal.

Now I have my climbing gear and stamina upgrades I've been climbing towers like a boss. Done a ton more shrines. Loved the eldin tower. That one with the lake and electric wizards was a pain though. Also having now played for hours now I have to say I'm pretty happy with the frame rate and visuals. Digital foundry tested a tiny region of the game and have given people the impression that the whole game is like that. Thing is this game is huge and so far the vast majority of it runs smooth. At some points it was smooth enough that it gave the impression of being 60fps even though I knows it's not. There are obvious black spots like the base of rito village but you run past that in 5 seconds.

I haven't had any major issues with the game either, just that very minor issue when I fight those Mobolins sometimes but even then it's like a split second and doesn't have any discernible impact.

This game has brought to life my childhood wonder of exploration that I imagined it would be like when I played the very first Zelda game.

Nope. I really hate being stuck mid-climb waiting for the rain to let up. Lol

Hyrule Castle music is suitably epic.
