Pokemon Go has apparently taken over social media. Nintendo stocks rose 38% in one day! Everyone is talking about, everyone. Young people, old people, people who never play video games, news outlets are reporting on it.

http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2016/07/pokemon_go_is_something_very_special_as_a_staggering_usd7_billion_is_added_to_nintendos_company_value

But the best part about all of it are the crazy stories that are coming from people playing this game.

In Australia the police had to release a statement:

This has caused a headache for the police station, as people have tried to enter it in the name of Pokémon.

They wrote: "For those budding Pokemon Trainers out there using Pokemon Go - whilst the Darwin Police Station may feature as a Pokestop, please be advised that you don't actually have to step inside in order to gain the pokeballs.

"It's also a good idea to look up, away from your phone and both ways before crossing the street. That Sandshrew isn't going anywhere fast. Stay safe and catch 'em all!"

A 40 year old Reddit user got suspected of being in a drug deal.

The 40-year-old Reddit user explained that he couldn’t sleep and later encountered ‘two sketchy looking dudes’ on his Pokémon catching adventure.

“There is a little park a few blocks from me that had like three pokestops and a gym, so I wandered over there to see what the game could offer,” he explained.

“So I get there and wander around a little checking out the stops and rustling around in the tall grass, then decide to go a few blocks away to see a couple more stops when I hear from the darkness a ‘Yo, my man!’

“Turning, I see two sketchy looking dudes sitting on a bench in the dark. I must have walked right past them without noticing them. One of them waves, ‘My man, check over by the blue truck over there we got an onyx earlier.’

“So I wander over by the truck and sure enough there's a f-----g Onyx there. Awesome. So I end up chatting with the guys for a bit, told ‘em where I got my Evee, they convinced me to join red team when I hit level five so we could ‘lock s--t down" in the neighbourhood.”

Here’s where things start to get a little strange

“Then the cop shows up,” he adds.

“Yeah, so it turns out two twenty-something black dudes and a 40-year-old white guy chilling in the park at 3am looks strange. It took a bit of talking to convince the cop we weren't doing a drug deal, and a bit longer to explain the game. Then the cop downloaded the f-----g game on his phone and asked us how to get started.”

A girl ended up finding a dead body.

That's the best topic title you could come up with? You should be ashamed.

It's pretty crazy. As strong as Pokemon has kept its drawing power this could raise it up again to another level. It'll be interesting to see how Nintendo takes it from here.

It's funny, about 15 years ago when movie and theme park rights for Harry Potter were being floated around I read an article about how Disney was interested in acquiring them. The man interviewed (I assume it was then CEO Michael Either) was asked about Pokemon. He called it a passing fad and nothing they would seriously look at.

Nothing, not a damn thing.  I left it on while driving and it went off by my mom's house.  I pull in and nothing!  I drive around a quarter of the town and nothing.

I'd be very interested in seeing what kind of Zelda game that Nintendo could make for the iPad. While it certainly would never trump a console version it would at least be interesting.

I got like 11 Pokemon just going to do groceries! This is so stupid and fun at the same time. I saw groups of people with their phones out walking around so I assume they were Pokemon players. I have huge hot spots near my place.

I just took my kids to the grocery store so that they could capture a few Pokemon and play at a gym that's near the store I shop at. While we were there I saw a car packed full of people all with their cell phones out. Sure enough they were there for the exact same reason why kids were.

Pokemon GO Creating Real-Life Friendships Among Strangers

Around the world, people (who own Android and iOS devices) have heard the call to become Pokémon Trainers thanks to Nintendo and Niantic’s Pokemon GO. The augmented reality app brings the game of finding and catching Pokemon out into the real world with digital Pokemon roaming around parks, bus stops, and landmarks throughout the world — and complete strangers are meeting up while in their effort to catch ‘em all.

While the app launched only this week, Reddit users on the dedicated subreddit r/PokemonGO have been posting pictures of impromptu meet-ups — some with as many as over 30 people — all of whom are Pokémon GO players searching for hot commodity Pokémon in the area.

Reddit user Haloi posted this photo of Melbourne Central in Australia at 11 p.m. on Friday night, where more than a few dozen people were gathered due to four active adjacent lures. In Pokémon Go, lures are dropped by players at designated areas that attract wild Pokemon. Australia was one of the first countries where Pokémon GO was made available this week.

Below, in an undisclosed local park, a Reddit user by the name Taeg met about 30 people, all of whom gathered due to a lure dropped in the area.

Another user, Bableg, also posted a photo of the same phenomenon, writing that the app has brought together people “who would’ve never met otherwise.”

In the comments, users told of similar stories; “We saw the same happen earlier,” writes another Redditor, PVSJeff. “Some guys threw one down, and a dozen of us came over. They were yelling ‘Pokemon?’ At everybody who walked by. Was great.”

Again, in Australia, Reddit user tayben posted the photo below with the title saying “Sydney is hooked.”

“About 1/3rd of the people I walked past were playing,” tayben writes. “This spot had a lure.”

In the comments below, another Redditor recalls: “I was eating breakfast peacefully in an A&W this morning checking to see if there were and Pokémon around and some random dude came up to me to start talking about the game. He and his girlfriend just sat down at my table and that’s how I made 2 new friends. I saw like 3 people just today catching Pokémon in the street and it’s barely 12:30.”

"There were break dancers on the corner of the street today. They put down lures and started dancing to Pokemon songs to draw the crowd. Highlight of the day."

"Me and my gf were walking back home from a trail and saw group of 4 kids all different ages playing the game and apparently all met earlier in the day because of the game. Nice to see people outside having fun. Cool thing to witness. "

"Today during my jog I stopped by 3 activated modules next to one another in Echo Park in Los Angeles and close to 60-70 people where gathered chatting and catching pokemon. In my 30 years of gaming i have never seen anything like it. It was beautiful."

"1000 odd people turned up for a Pokemon GO walk / meet up in Perth, AU yesterday. It was crazy to see the amount of people chilling out together, great to see. Went up to Kings Park late in the evenin' for dinner and the place was like a car park. The weather is awful at the moment so every car just had 3/4 people in it, all chasing Pokemon"

-------------------------------

Me and my friends walked past some dude watering his lawn:

"You guys finding anything good?"

"We go a Scyther a few blocks back."

"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

*Runs inside grabs his phone and takes off.

There were like 20 of us hanging out in a small park that had a lure when a Rhydon appeared nearby. We all tracked it to an apartment complex and like 10 people had come out of their apartments just to catch it.

The social aspect has been a blast so far.

Also, if your Poke Stop happens to be at a police station, you might want to use a little caution. "We have had some people playing the game behind the PD, in the dark, popping out of bushes, etc.," reads a Facebook post from the police department in Duvall, Wash. "This is high on our list of things that are not cool right now."

LOL

"So...story time.

I dont play pokemon, the only pokemon game I played was Sapphire and while I did enjoy it very much when i was younger. I never like the 3DS pokemon games when I tried them.

I decided to try the app on a whim, and had some enjoyment out of it.

Today I found out that my job is listed as a pokestop, in a long line of pokestops going up and down the block. thats cool I could get some free items whenever I have free time. However the nature of my job is very busy, so I dont have much free time. I managed to swipe some free items only twice within 9 hours.

I work as a chef in an traditional fine dining Italian restaurant, our specialty is my handmade Neapolitan style Pizzas. Sunday lunches are pretty slow so when I had some free time I decided to try an Incense while sitting out front and met a couple people who came by to use the pokestop while I was on my break. I was amazed at how many people walked by using the app, stop in front of the restaurant and then walk away.

After catching about 10 pokemon, I decided to try an expirement, since I see no lures at any of the pokestops on my block and set up a lure for my pokestop, and went back to work.

10 minutes later, Im getting ticket after ticket order after order for pizza and appetizers, the bar is suddenly full and Im seeing row upon row of cell phones with pokemon go.

I dont even have time to take a picture since the orders keep coming in and by the time the lure is done, I've sold out of all my pizza dough for the day and foccacia bread(which is 23 full sized pizzas) and the bar is still filled with people mingling and buying drinks. I spent the rest of the night making extra dough, bread and pasta just to make up for selling out.

Thanks Pokemon Go! I gotta do it again next time it's slow. "
