The imposed requirement was added after the news trended significantly toward no tags unless it was automatically filled.  Adding in a default of "news" I whole-heartedly then expect essentially nothing to change except that now instead of not getting any tag because it went completely ignored, it will now get a possibly incorrect news tag.

If they're being applied correctly in the first place, then there isn't a problem at all with the idea.  If they're not, then it just makes things even worse.

This does not help. Its bad enough having to put in a url, type a title, type a subtitle, click a console box, and then have to put a news tag in too.

Times this by 30 each day.

And when you click Big news, you still have to check the news box. Sad

Suggestion time.

Pic dump feature.

Sometimes when you have a bunch of urls from imageshack to post pics, a feature to just bulk post a bunch of pics would be handy. At the moment I have to go into the html and copy paste tags all over the place.

I don't understand what you want.

I don't understand what you want.

For instance, I upload a bunch of pics to a site and get back direct links like so:

http://img22.imageshack.us/img22/1214/wolfmanu.jpg
http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/5836/spirittracksbox.jpg
http://img246.imageshack.us/img246/6462/redsteel25wii003jpg718.jpg
http://img33.imageshack.us/img33/9715/redsteel25wii002jpg718.jpg
http://img517.imageshack.us/img517/2268/redsteel25wii001jpg718.jpg
http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/8667/mandrakep.jpg
http://img168.imageshack.us/img168/2323/casamassina.jpg
http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/7060/anothercoderajourneyint.jpg

And I want to post them all directly at once. Rather than click the pic icon and upload each pic individually.

I'll look into automatically converting pasted image links.  On GG Weekly news postings, the entire methodology is under review.

Toward the goal of encouraging users to display their VGPress signatures on other sites how about awarding points for click-throughs to our site?  Maybe limit it to X points per source I.P. to limit gaming the system.

Neat idea.  Because of the nature of it, it would also entail a referral link.  Could add bonus points for click-through and registration.  Anyone using signatures would have to update theirs in order to get the proper link, but that's doable.  I'll put that in the pile.

This one starts simple, but I can see how it would end up complicated.

Boxshots for game reviews, I think it would add more visual interest to the front page where we show the reviews while also indicating what system we reviewed the game for.

The "easy" way would be to leave it to the reviewer (or someone with rights to add at their choice) to assign the image to their individual review.  The other way would be to keep a database of game titles and assign a single image to that game.

If we had many people reviewing the same game the latter option would be the way to go, but currently I would not see the need for it given the low level of reviews.

A games database in the long run would be helpful, I'd like to be able to see all the reviews done by the community on a specific game, be able to upload images, link forum topics etc... But I can see that being a lot of work.  I have a database of games, I forget how many tens of thousands there are, but the list I have has title, console, genre and I think date of release.  If there were good admin tools I'd be happy to curate it.  Despite my ehtusiasm for such a thing the bigger picture question is, do we want to go down that avenue when sites like Giantbomb and gamespot already have done such a good job, and would it add users, or even add value to present users?

I think the time when a site was all things to all users has passed and it is better to specialize, and the news niche is what we have right now, so it's probably not a project for us, but worth talking about.

The progression of the review system is relatively simple.  An auto-suggest for game titles such that titles are reused, and can thus be aggregated.  That portion isn't difficult and has been considered already.  Box-art puts us more in Wiki territory, though it's not something would necessarily hurt.

These are things that have just been too far down the priorities list.

Quoting now has two options: Quote and Full Quote.  Quote is to just quote text added in that specific post (removes nested quotes), while Full Quote works as it always has.

New feature I think you'll like:

Jump to oldest unread

This option, which you can check from your settings page automatically sends you to the page with the oldest unread GG Weekly comment when you visit the rolling news comments page.

Bah, this is acting up.  Gave it good testing offline, but it's not cooperating.  Will hopefully get it running correctly soon.
