I was just running the numbers:
31,500.00 JPY | = | 405.351 USD |
HDMI included...they better still be including a crappy, 50 cent RCA lead. Or have the same plug as the Wii.

Firstly, I don't think Nintendo is going to allow massive updates, patches or required game installs. But also is supports 32gb SDHC cards which are dirt cheap, check amazon. And you can use external USB sticks/hardrives

eshop games will run from external storage I have no doubt. Full downloaded wii u games? Not sure.
Archangel3371 said:2 GB of RAM is nice but half is going to the OS. 32 GB for storage is sooooooooo small, too small. Network Premium? I wonder what they'll offer to make it worth the fee. I would certainly expect the drive to have a faster reading lens given the time when blu-ray first came out til now. $130 for the controller? Ouch. Looks like the controller is to the Wii U what blu-ray was to the PS3. I really like New Super Mario Bros. U. That'll be my Wii U purchase motivator.
The 360/PS3 used 100 mb of RAM for the OS. Nintendo will reduce the OS to use less than 1GB for sure, no way it can use twice as much total RAM as 360/PS3 have just for the OS.
With the 3DS they had some RAM reserved for the OS which they later unlocked for developers. 2GB is the very positive upswing on the scale of where we thought the RAM would end up being. The controller is half the cost of the system, so it's more understandable that the system isn't a full generational leap. I hope people understand this before the crap begins.
Full, downloadable Wii U games restricted to a 32GB hard drive is a bit. :X
Yeah that's kind of disappointing too. I wonder what kind of size restrictions they'll have on the games.Foolz said:Full, downloadable Wii U games restricted to a 32GB hard drive is a bit. :X

At least it means our bulk Wii U buying will be put to good use: one console per game!
This is true.Foolz said:At least it means our bulk Wii U buying will be put to good use: one console per game!
Wii U supports full HD 1080p, uses a "GPGPU." Main mem: 1 GB. System: 1 GB. Total: 2GB
- Games use only 1 GB of main memory. System memory is for OS. Game discs 25 GB, 22.5 MB/s
- browser can be used while playing
- The Wii U consumes up to 75 watts of electricity
- import your Virtual Console and Wii Ware games from the Wii at launch
- 40 watts is average for the system
- Wii mode for Wii games
- low latency for GamePad
- watch videos, play games on the GamePad
- You can do multiplayer using a GamePad and several Wii remotes. Dual-screen play possible
- "Play together on Wii U, play alone on Wii U".
- Vertical stand, GamePad stand set to be available.
- Pro Controller: ~5000 yen.
- NSMBU and NintendoLand to go on sale on launch day, for ~6000 and ~5000 yen
- NSMBU is the 1st Mario game to launch with a Nintendo system since N64
- 2 SKU's premium and basic set
- standard set is 8GB, premium is 32GB
Just read the summary elsewhere.
Well hopefully Nintendo has more snse than to pull that shit in the west.
Memory is the big play for higher prices? No.
I'm going to bed, will check in in 12 hours.
EDIT: Just read your summary GG. Much better, but stll nothing big. I am assuming not everygame requires a 1GB install. That would be stupuid. Hopefully that is mis-translation.

When it says it uses 1GB it means that games only use 1GB of the RAM from the 2GB in the system as a whole. There probably won't be many, if any mandatory installs. Once again Ideaman came out tops, he said there would be a rather large portion of the RAM for a large OS.
Archangel3371 said:Well I'll obviously be getting the 32 GB Wii U myself.
You save $50 + by getting the white and a 32gb SD card is only $20 on amazon.
I've got a 500gb external USB drive so I'm set. They are fairly cheap now too. I want the black but I am POed that you have to pay more for just a colour and more memory and a few stands I don't even want.
Three Wii U presentations taking place in a half hour
Anyone care to watch three Wii U presentations at once? Then take a look at this for links
1. Watch the US event here.
2. Watch the European event here.
3. Watch the Japanese event here (first and third-party games).
Why does Japan get a special second games related conference?
K so I will b watching the Euro version so my commentary will be different to the rest of you.
On the hard drive, has it been confirmed that Wii U games will be playable from external storage? Otherwise 32GB is going to be a must.
