What a fantastic surprise Resident Evil 4 was. Firstly, it was pushed back to January, which automatically made me think it was too crappy for a big holiday release. It also seemed to be in development hell which was another indication that things were going wrong. Boy, was I ever glad to be wrong.

The exact same thing happened to Resident Evil 2 back in the day.

I didn't give a shit back then. I was a Nintendo fanboy back in the nineties.

I agree. It was disappointing after the incredible highs of 2004.

How so? There were plenty of amazing games. Chaos Theory is STILL the best SC game. RE4 is STILL the best RE. God of War was so fresh.
Plus the 360 launched. It was a solid year. Better than 2003 hands down. You know, going back and looking at the lists I really feel though that 2000 to 2002 was an epic fucking time. Look at all those classics in 2000, I mean that was some amazing shit.
Lets continue with my lists. Shouldn't it go 10 down to 1 so we build up the greatness? Bah I'm going to be lazy and just copy paste some of your stuff.
1. Resident Evil 4
2. Devil May Cry 3
3. Shadow of the Colossus
4. God of War
5. Dragon Quest 8
6. Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow
7. Splinter Cell Chaos Theory
8. Zelda Minish Cap
9.. Fire Emblem Path of Radiance
10. Jade Empire
I take it back, fantastic year. Best start to a year ever. Zelda, RE, DMC, GoW, wow! 2004 to early 2005 was the best gaming has ever been probably. PS2 completely showing dominance as it had just gotten MGS3 exclusive, then God of War, DMC3 exclusive GT4, Shadow of the Colossus and DQ8 exclusive (and later that year it stole RE4 from GC). Just murdered the competition, the greatest system of all time. As usual my list is better cause Edge left out the greatest action hack and slash ever made.
Honorable mentions: Jade Empire, PoP TT, Psychonauts, Sonic Rush, Hulk Ultimate destruction, Mercenaries, Far Cry Instincts
WTF no one put Kingdom Hears 2 on their lists, hello. Now I have to adjust mine again.
Seriously one of the greatest years ever.
I have always been torn on the PS2. On the one hand, yes it had a ton of killer games which made it one of the best systems ever. On the other hand, I would have rather had all those games made for Gamecube or Xbox (and in some cases Dreamcast) so its a love/hate relationship with the console itself.

Last week of December 2005 apparently.
It says March 28th, 2006 on Gamerankings? Dec 2005 may be the Japan release?
2005 was another really great year, and one of the more overlooked years in terms of the quality of games available all throughout the year. 2005 kind of marked the point in time when we started getting tons of great shit EARLY in the year instead of only towards the summer/end of year period. And its been this way ever since.
