Jesus. Halo: CE and GTA III alone makes this a seminal year in console gaming as a whole, beyond genres.
No wonder the judge sent you off.
"Deputy, please escort that young gentleman that's mumbling incomprehensible things about Haloes and Icoes out of the premises."

Did you stuff your notes down your pants?
Pokemon Crystal. That's the only game anyone needed in 2001. God knows I spent more time with that than any other Pokemon game in the series.
Of course if you had about 120 hours to spend in 2001, you could have also spent it playing Dragon Warrior 7.
You would have been kind of bored for most of that 120 hours, but it would have filled the time.

Wow the hits just keep coming. What a monumental year, GTA3, Halo, PSO, DMC, MGS2 wow! My list is so much better than Edge's, leaving out DMC, what the hell is wrong with you, or Smash Bros, or Gran Turismo 3, or Paper Mario. Come on. As for my honorable mentions, Sonic Adventure 2 at the time was one of my favorite games ever at the time but trying to play that one again is rough, Onimusha, FFX.

Never played either. Their sequels were great.
I'm adjusting the list, the zelda games should be lower.
You would've loved both, Vader. Both were incredible launch games.
2001 was this good? I was only 16, couldn't buy my own stuff that often then. I remember the Oracle series and Halo, but I'm surprised that I don't remember the rest coming out that year.
Ah, Conker's BFD. We still use many a quote from that game at unappropriate times
Here we are in 2001 and its finally time to retire the Playstation and Nintendo 64 (and Dreamcast unfortunately) and usher in a new era of hardware platforms. It was an exciting time to be a young gamer. The start of the year saw the last few gems of the old machines followed by the first few gems of the new towards the end.
Without further ADO:
Again I had a much harder time cutting this down to 10 than I did for 2003.
