Anyway yah I just beat this yesterday...as I said it reminds of of Far Cry 2, what with its solid mechanics yet repetitive design. 8.1 rating from me.
SteelAttack said:Picked it up on this last summer sale at Steam. $7.50 for the GOTY edition with all DLC. I only installed it to see how it would run on my humble rig, but I kind of got hooked and now I'm 4 hours in. Gunplay is pretty good, I've only tried sniper rifles, pistols and shotguns, but so far they all feel right. Game looks pretty good as well, and runs at very decent settings. Not much plot, sadly. But Claptrap more than made up for the lack of interesting characters, at least in the first hour or so.
Will try to get some screens of my playthrough tonight.
I've been hankering to get back into it - I've got all the DLC on the PC version, so I might join you!
How's the multiplayer work on that? I've heard it uses Gamespy, but I've no idea if Gearbox have changed that since launch.

Don't you hold down ALT and then press the Printscreen button? Then you need to paste it into a photo program or something I think.
No its actually F8....now how do I post these pics here from my desktop? They won't paste.
Nice pics, but is the game very dark or is it a dark area? I had to crank up the brightness on my screen to see the details. How do you feel about the cel shading? Seems like a bit of a clash between realism and cartoony.
Maybe it was at nighttime, or in a dark place. The game's pretty bright.
Love the art style.
I love getting headshots in this game! Pop!
Also love hitting enemies with an electrical weapon, watching them fry from the insides out and seeing their eyes and brains pop out!
Games that have specific death animations, depending on how you kill them: ALWAYS a +1 in my book!
Also love hitting enemies with a fire-based weapon as they smolder and burn to ash, which then drifts away in the wind!
AWESOME!
Yeah that spot I was in was dark, plus the game was turning to nighttime. I like shooting somebody's face off and my guy going "What....ya didn't like that?!"
Ack, I can't come to terms with the visuals, it's like detailed HD graphics with a toony rimlight. Just seems weird to me. I felt the same when I played the cel shaded prince of persia, it was so detailed it kinda missed the point of cel shading.
See I didn't like Prince Of Persia, graphically or gameplay-wise. But this game feels right to me. It probably helps that it didn't already have a set art style that I came to expect a la Persia.
SteelAttack said:It's a matter of taste. I also loved the way PoP 2008 looked.
I loved the way it looked in screens. When I got it home and played I just thought, what's the point of cel-shading it when you have so much detail anyway? It kind of mitigated the effect.
So how does this game play anyway? I hear its part RPG? Edge said it has vehicles? Why does it get repetitive?
It has A vehicle.....comes in handy because its an open world and walking everywhere gets boring. It gets repetitive because you get sent on random jobs and missions just like Far Cry 2, and its all the same "go find this guy, kill him" and "pull these 5 levers to restore power" kind of crap.
RPG....well, more like a loot collecting game like Baldur's Gate mixed with a shooter. Your guy levels up and gains new abilities and experience, allowing you to equip better weapons and gadgets.
