^I liked the first one so much that I went to play the second one immediately.  They had changed some of the mechanics (and the appearance of the characters) so I stopped playing it almost right away so that I could put some time in between them.  I will be playing it later this year though, so I'll let you know.

I didn't think that Condemned 2 was anywhere near as bad as most people say. I thought that while not as good as the first game it was still quite enjoyable.

Anyway I have trouble thinking of any games I give up on let alone popular ones. Usually when I start playing any game I'm already so well informed on it that I know pretty much exactly what I'm getting into and that I'll enjoy it enough to stick it out. One that does come to mind is GTA: San Andreas. I was hyped for it like everyone else and grabbed it on day one along with the strategy guide. Put in over 25 hours. Most of that time ended up being spent just driving around, listening to the radio stations, and goofing off. I just got bored doing the missions along with annoyed by the graphics and sloppy gameplay mechanics. To be fair it was near the end of that generation and I was ready to move on.

So why exactly is Condemed 2 worse than the first game?

The metacritic between the two are within a point (81,80) so the dissapointment for the second one may be overplayed.  I can only guess that since Condemned was a launch game for the 360 most people enjoyed it (as most launch games get the beer googles treatment) and that by the time the second one came around people had moved on.

The second one has overwhelmingly popular critical response ( 64 +, 10 meh, 2 - ).  Maybe it was the addition of multi-player that turned some off?
