Phillip Noyce Directing 'Bloodsport' Remake

Director Phillip Noyce ('Salt') has signed up to direct a remake of the 1986 martial arts cult classic 'Bloodsport'. The film is being written by Robert Mark Kamen ('Taken'), with Ed Pressman and Alberto Lensi producing. No word yet on who will be filling the shoes of original star Jean Claude Van Damme.

LET THE BULLETS FLY (Wen Jiang) Review

" It's been a while since I've been this amused by a film, happily taking in all the joy that emits from its every pore. Definitely recommended and I'm already looking forward to his next film."

Uh oh, looks like Green Lantern sucks

First, what works: Ryan Reynolds really does give GREEN LANTERN his all. He's the best thing about the film. It's an earnest performance and you can see Reynolds kicking, punching, and dragging the movie with him. It's unfortunate that the movie is dead weight on his back - the script is a mess, the direction is uninspired, and the pace is flat-out boring.

And

I love the concept of a sci-fi action superhero movie, so don’t think I went into this movie wanting to pick it apart. All I wanted was a good movie within this very rich universe. I got the rich universe part, but not the good movie part.

Ryan Reynolds tries, God bless him. He really does everything he can to elevate this movie, but there’s only so much he can do with some of the horrible dialogue he’s forced to churn out and he can only sell so much fantasy before the mediocre CGI overwhelms the picture.

I've got to be honest, I'm glad. Something about Ryan Reynolds has always pissed me off. Maybe it's because Van Wilder was just pure crap. Maybe it's because he got to tap Scarlette Johanson. Or maybe it's because he walked away from the Deadpool movie to do GL. I dunno, but I just hope he goes away.

I hated him for ruining Blade 3 with unfunny wise cracks.

I'm so-so on Cars 2. I wasn't a big fan of the original though admittedly it's still not bad. Supposedly this is really nothing like the first, so I may break down and check it out. I haven't missed a Pixar film in years and they've really never disappointed.

Siren Visual to release DENNOU COIL on DVD

One of the recent big mysteries of the universe was the question why the Japanese animation "Dennou Coil" had not yet been picked up for English-language DVD distribution. The series has been out in Japan for years already, got rave reviews from critics and a loyal fanbase, and has been likened to the works of Studio Ghibli (even GhibliWorld's Peter van der Lugt has said a thing or two about that).

The story concerns itself with a group of children who live in a city which is mostly real, but parts are "augmented reality" which exists only in the Internet and for which you need special glasses to be able to see it. Using special (and often illegal) software the kids start solving problems in their neighborhood.

So the biggest anime news of this week (in my opinion) is that the wait is almost over. Australian distributor Siren Visual will be streaming the title in July, followed by a DVD release sometime in September. As far as I know this will be the first release outside of Japan for this series (please someone correct me if I'm wrong...), and certainly the first English-friendly one.

I have to say that Siren Visual are on a hell of a run this year. They've released noitaminA series "House of Five Leaves" , "The Tatami Galaxy" and "Welcome to Irabu's Office" (with "Bunny Drop" scheduled for later this year), and this very week they have released both "Kaiba" and "Welcome to the NHK".

Please watch and review it. I love Studio Ghibli stuff so the mention of it in the story has peaked my interest. Tell us what it's like please.

Thor 2 coming out 2013, Thor 1 makes over $400 million

UK Dub Trailer For Studio Ghibli's ARRIETTY

In a very unusual move Studio Ghibli's Arrietty is receiving not one but two English language dub tracks for its release in English speaking territories. One - featuring the voices of Bridgit Mendler, Will Arnett, Amy Poehler and Carol Burnett - has been prepared for the US release. And another - featuring Saorise Ronan, Mark Strong, Olivia Coleman and Tom Holland - has been prepared for the UK release. And that UK track is now on display in the freshly released - and very rhymey - UK trailer for the film.

Based on the novel The Borrowers by Mary Norton, tells the story of a family of tiny people - no bigger than a mouse - who live hidden away in a regular human home, surviving by 'borrowing' items they need from the house during the night. Watch the trailer below.
