We went over this on the podcast.  There's the Magic Sword, but no Master Sword.

LOL Then why isn't teh Magic Sword in the rest of the Zelda games then, huh? I call bad English translation! It's TEH MASTER SWORD! We all knows it! Grinning

Alright, I finally made it through dungeon 7. It was pretty easy for the most part except for a couple puzzles, and why did they use the same boss as was used in dungeon 1? They didn't even change him at all, and was just as easy to kill too, easier really since I have the magic wand now.

I'm working on dungeon 8, but it is kicking my ass. I HATE those blue soldiers! Nothing hurts them except the sword and bombs, and they can only be stabbed in the back, which is hard to do when they run around so quickly. Also, just about every room has them! Argh! Argh!

The 8th Labyrinth is pretty damned hard, but it's good preparation for the Death Mountain labyrinth. That level is huge and packed with very hard monsters.

Update. You at level 9 yet, good luck with that one. I just realized you have no clue how to kill Ganon, LOL

Oh and that map, I don't remember it at all, most have lost it or something. So nice that they give you hints.

That worries me. Sad

I'm still on level 8. I haven't played today yet, but will later this afternoon or evening. I'm determined to beat the game.

Yeah, I had a friend back in High School who received Zelda for his birthday, and his copy came with the same map that I've been using (except his was in English-only). I remember that map so well because I thought it was the coolest thing I'd ever seen at the time for a videogame. I only had an Atari 2600 back then, and none of those games ever came with a map.

It gets overlooked a lot, but Zelda totally set the standard for instruction manuals and in-box accessories.  That was a full color manual and it had instructions, listed all the items, gave out tips and secrets, etc.  Plus you had that map which pretty much saved everyone's life trying to find their way around Hyrule.

LOL In all seriousness, though, that is one of the worst boss fights ever.

For the record this has been a great thread. It's been cool to see someone going through a classic game like Zelda and updating us with their progress. Just like the good ole days.

Glad you have enjoyed the thread, robio. Happy

I just beat dungeon 8, but I didn't find the Master Key that Vader said was there. Do I need it to beat dungeon 9? I really don't want to fight those blue bastards again to find it. Sad

Also, I still have not found the red ring yet. Cry Do I need that to beat dungeon 9 too?

EDIT: Nevermind about that first question. I figured out that I do in fact need Master Key for dungeon 9. That place has a TON of locked doors, and very few keys. Hrm Back to dungeon 8 . . . again. *sigh*

EDIT 2: I found teh Master key! Grinning Now back to dungeon 9 . . . again!

EDIT 3: Dungeon 9 is a BITCH! Nintendo are bastards!!! Argh!

Yup that final level still drives me insane to this day. I still get lost. And I have totally forgot where the red ring is. But it's totally useless as at this point you got this far with the blue one, whats a few more screens.

You don't need the Red Ring, though it does make the final battle easier. You got to get the silver arrow though. The first time I got to Gannon I didn't have it.  Getting into that final battle without it was a bad bad place to be in.

And here's an interesting piece of Robio trivia. The music in the Death Mountain labyrinth was too intense for me as a kid and I had to turn the volume off in order to play it.

IT IS DONE!

The evil Ganon has been defeated!

After spending around 4 hours trying to figure out the hell known as dungeon 9 and seriously wanting to pull my hair out, I resorted to cheating again. There's absolutely no reason for the final dungeon to be sooo  . . . damned . . . confusing! Oh, and there's also no way I would have beat it without the red ring; I was drinking medicine like a thirsty man in a sun-drenched desert before I got it, which was probably because my magic shield was stolen somehow! Argh! I did manage to find the dungeon map all by myself, though. Happy Ganon was surprisingly easy to kill, and why does he look like a blue pig? Seriously, WTF? LOL

Now off to A Link to the Past! Grinning

Congrats dude.  You haven proven it can be done, which makes it 6% more likely that I will one day try to do the same.

EDIT: Hey wait -- you are skipping the Adventures of Link?

Thanks

Yeah, I'm skipping Zelda II for now. That game annoys the crap out of me. Link to the Past feels more like a direct sequel to the original Zelda to me anyway, and I've always wanted to finish it. It was the first Zelda game I ever bought too. Happy Unfortunately, I lacked the skill and/or determination to finish it back in the SNES days. Sad That wrong shall be righted now! Grinning

For the record, Zelda II: The Adventure's of Link is the real man's Zelda. Go play the foo-foo ones all you want, you'll just a be a little girl swooshing around in a dress until you've finished that game. Besides it's far superior to the original Zelda.  I'd think everyone would want to play it.

Insane ramblings, don't listen.

Zelda II is a great game but it is not Zelda. This will always be the weird cousin of the family.
