I <3 you.
Ok. This thread has officially become the thread of homoerotic appreciation between friends.
What? So I can't walk around in underwear with a sword and headband, without accusations!
Biggots!
Wonder Boy was positioned to be Sega's answer to Link and Mario, and back in the day, he had my vote!
With the light RPG elements of the game + sword battles + jumping, collecting coins, and hidden doors, this game took the best elements of the best games back then and rolled 'em all into one.
Just look at the solid sprites and the colors of this game, try to put yourself into the mindset of someone playing it for the first time back in 1988... (yes, 21 years ago!), and maybe you'll see the potential it had back then. The few people (like me) that sought it out were immediately hooked --AND-- only got their fixes for this type of game when Dragon's Trap and Wonder Boy in Monster World came out in the looong years to follow this original game's release!
I was wondering how it would hold up today, and was afraid to try it after sooo many years, lest I tarnish the memories of it, but lo-and-behold: The colors, charming simplicity and unique quirkiness of the game still brings a smile to my face!
Hey, for a 21 year old game a 7.5 out of 10 on IGN.Com is not bad at all!

This release is a bigger deal than most would give it credit for!
Read this: The Legend of Wonder Boy from IGN.gamingeek said:Which game is which? The second pic looks best to me.
First pic is Wonder Boy in Monster Land (Sega Master System)
Second pic is Dragon's Trap (TurboGrafx)
Third pic is Wonder Boy in Monster World (Genesis)
Fourth pic is My Tremendous Manhood...? Hey? Why isn't that one showing...? Hmmm...
The genesis one looks more complicated?
I think, dont I remember an arcade version that looked a lot better?

Underwear? UNDERWEAR...!?
You of ALL people, Steel, should recognize a LOINCLOTH when you see one!

Unable to fight, the people now look to Wonder Boy. Realizing that he is Wonder Land's last hope, Wonder Boy sets out on an incredible journey to rid the country of the monsters and defeat the "invincible" evil dragon.
