What's going on here? Am I noticing a trend or is it just in my head? We used to only have a big argument maybe once a year, twice max and then everyone was friends anyway at the end of it all.
Now it just seems like there are mini-conflicts all over the place.
I have to cite Skylock, because he was the most level headed poster I know, his theory and my theory is that conflict usually arises because we don't explain ourselves properly, which leads to mis-interpretation, which leads to arguments.
It's weird when someone takes what you say and replies "Yeah but..." and then says the same thing you meant anyway. So we were in agreement all the time right? :) Pointless arguments.
I think also, that sometimes we have to accept that people have WTF opinions and even if they are mind boggling and they hate a critically lauded game, you have to shrug it off. Sure if it's a semi-famous public figure i.e well known games journalist or celeb, that's fine to rag on them. But when it comes to arguing with otherwise reasonable people here? People are different and you should accept that, at least for the sake of peace and quiet.
So whenever things get heated, just remember one thing:
Aspro can't finish a Mario or Sonic game.
I think because everyone here jokes around so much and don't take everyone seriously, it feels comfortable to sometimes speak are minds but don't feel like we're really crossing the line. I guess we do take our opinions too far, but that's because we're all passionate about the games we love and enjoy. And I always think it's in a respectful and poking fun sort of way like how friends at a bar just joke around with each other and talk comfortably.
Like with you, GG. I guess we had a heated discussion in the Ninikuni game, but I feel I'm able to discuss with you like that because I know we're just having a respectful but friendly conversation while we're sharing our honest opinion with each other. But I couldn't do that with Agnates because I don't know him too well. I mean, just look at Dvader and his conversation there at the end! I would never take that tone when we discuss, GG. I would always say "I was joking" or "I respect whatever you have to say" because I really do.
I think we're really laid back. For example, you even asked me if I prefer to be Patchy or a Pirate in my eye-patch blog?
