Every February on whatever message board I'm hanging out on, I try to have a little stupid fun and do a theme month. Didn't pull it off last month, but usually it works out. Anyway this year, I'd like to present my Top 28 games of all time. This is a list I've been thinking about during a lot of down time at work for the past week, and I'm actually pretty proud of it. It's just my list of favorites, so there will be several games you've never heard of or at least never played. And there will likely be some that you'll go, "seriously? you like that turd?" Well, fuck you in advance. It's my list and I love it.

Anyway, I'll be posting one game a day with a blurb about why I love it so until the month is over, with my number 1 game being presented on Feb 28. Before we begin here is a semi-sorta sneak preview. Just a quick list of the honorable mentions.  The ones that came so close and yet..... not good enough.

#28. Super Mario Bros. 2

The concept for "video game hype" was introduced to me, and most of the world thanks to Super Mario Bros. 2. First it was just whispers and rumors at the school lunch table. "Is it even real?" Then Nintendo Power came along and showed it to the world... and it was beautiful. It was radically different than it's predecessor and yet it still worked. Hell it was better than the original. The gameplay was so much fun that it boggles my mind that we haven't seen a similar Mario game to it ever again. Plus, to this day I still think it has one of the best endings ever made.

#27. Dig-Dug

I have a great fondness for classic arcade games. There's an elegant simplicity to them, that make them easy to learn, tough to master and addictive as hell. It's hard to say which is my favorite, but I think it would have to be Dig-Dug. You dig, you fight Dragons and balloon monsters, you get bonus points for finding vegetables, and level ups are represented by flowers. Does gameplay even matter when you have all of that?  Well I suppose you do, but Dig-Dug still works. Limited space and lots of monsters mean you have to have to develop a plan for beating the level quickly, and in the later levels that means you have about 5 seconds. Fast, dangerous, and cute balloon monsters.... yay!

Hooray! Monster rape!
