Overall 3.50
What the hell is this? Here I expected a Mario like game for gameboy, it's considered a classic so I expected something decent. Instead I get something that sort of looks like Mario but controls like ass, really hairy ass. Wow the jumping and running is horrible, it took me forever to get used to it. I don't know if this is good or bad but the levels are never so complex as to where the controls are much of an issue. This is as basic as platformers go with simple moving platforms and really slow moving enemies.

There is also the issue of length. SMB was never a long game but it still had 32 levels, this game has 12. Its under an hour long with almost no challenge and no replay value at all. Oh and whats worse is that 4 of those levels aren't even platforming levels. They are strange shooting segments where you are in a vehicle of some sort, shooting crap.

Terrible game and don't give me this Gameboy excuse, the original Gameboy was more than capable of making a better Mario game.

What?  Man you must have just not been around at the time (not meant as an insult at all).  Handheld gaming went from game and watch toys with a few preset positions and an ever repeating scenario ... to the gameboy.  Whereby we could play actual games in the palm of our hands.  This was the biggest revolution in gaming in my lifetime.  Sure the first games were short (compared to the NES and to arcades) but they had no real precedent.

I loved this game back when it was released and I love this to this day.  And if I could play it right now I would still love it of that I have no doubt.

I know Mario looks and feels odd, I know the controls feel "off" compare to the other Super Mario games, but I just love this game.  It encompassed how much I loved my fat brick gameboy when I bought it.

The submarine and spaceship levels are also beyond amazing.

Can't say I blame anyone who doesn't like this game if they're picking it up now for the first time. The first generation of GB games were very basic. If you go back and look at the launch titles, Mario Land was as advanced as it got. It took them all a while before they really figured out how to make good games. The difference between this SML2 and this game is astounding.

Still I'm a fan. The music was great, the vehicle levels were fun, and Princess Daisy was a hot slut.

Of course nostalgia will play a huge part in loving this game but the truth is it is nowhere near as playable like so many old games were. Many NES gamesa are fun as hell even if playing for the first time today. Hell Donkey Kong GB is a blast cause its a well made game. Metroid 2 is a fun game and I just played it for the first time last year. Super Mario Land is not, its just a poor game that doesn't hold up at all.

I'm really tempted to hunt down a copy of this game. I've never owned a Gameboy, and I've never played this game, so nostalgia wouldn't cloud my judgement at all. I'm curious which side of this fence I'd fall on. Of course, as a fan of archaic games in general, I'd probably like it. Nyaa

You can play it on your computer at any time if you are that curious.

^ Ewww, that's not the same. Playing a console/handheld game on a PC with a keyboard sucks. It's also illegal! ( Nyaa ) I have a GB Player now; I'd rather use that.

I played this about a month ago, it is still as brilliant as it was back in the 90's.

3.5? Shame on you.  I'll beat it again this week so I can write my own review.

Boooooooooooo.

This review sucks. If you picked it up when the gameboy was out, this game was the shit. If it was cheaper I would pick it up in an instant.
