but the wii selling anywhere around 70 million is a impressive feat for any console in any gen

The number is accurate and is by NCL. On Oct 28 they announced:

Nintendo Wii Hardware & Software Sales for this Quarter

-Wii hardware passes 75 million

-Total software sales for Wii pass 610 million

-Super Mario Galaxy 2 sold 5.1 million so far

-Wii Sports Resort sold 4.8 million in this quarter alone, sold 20.94 million total lifetime so far

-Wii Fit Plus sold 2.57 million this quarter, passes 15.2 million worldwide total

-Wii Party has so far sold 2.5 million

-New Super Mario Bros. sold 2.03 million this quarter, 16.73 million total lifetime

-Mario Kart Wii sold 1.46 million this quarter, hits 24.01 million total sales to date

-Wii sold 1.93 million this quarter, the first sub 2 million quarter for the console ever

-Wii Party a million-seller in Japan alone

These statistics also put the software attach rate to an average of 8:1. Hardly "noone buys games".

All that was before the Black Firday/November (and October?) sales so 76 sounds about right.
