Also, My post in regards to Banjo Getting Waggle, yes I know that they aren't the same thing...But if you have one, I feel you should have the other, what would be the point not to.
My post in the Banjo Thread:
I think its a good move financially, to ensure that developers don't start designing more Wii-exclusive games, but it is also naive to think that the Wii is only doing good because of the waggle and that MS can somehow change its market identity so late in the generation. MS is known as the console of the hardcore traditional gamer, the home of the red ring of death, and the home of big production, violent games. Nintendo garners sales not only because of its controller, but because of the image that their sales representatives and advertisers have ingrained in the minds of the consumer, and also because of its highly coveted, long running franchises which are the best among all first parties. The Wii has been marketed ingeniously, think of those silly lighthearted Wii would like to play commercials, no other platform is as good marketing wise either.
In regards to Banjo-Kazooie I thnk it could really work. I may sound like a hypocrite, but I think it could work because MS is coming out with a controller entirely separate from the traditional controller, and it is designed exclusively to play these motion-sensed controlled games. Sure I said in the other thread that conrollers like the siaxxis wouldn't work, but I never said that you couldn't have both if two separate controllers were released on each next generation console. Banjo-Kazooie has separated itself from the likes of LBP, and is now even more original if this is confirmed to be true. And if MS comes out with more games like Banjo-Kazooie or that make use of this new controller, and less like Cooking Mama, I won't complain.
Hires the main conflict between you and I was really that you feel a standard controller and a wiimote like controller cannot be mixed. I think it can be done, you don't, thats pretty much where we are at. Thats fine. We are good.
It was more the other people in that thread that kind of started to dismiss the wiimote aiming, not so much hires and rag.
WTF is that? ^^
Edit: I meant the weird gibberish in HiRes post.
Um excuse me but who is this "everyone"? I actually like the idea myself. In fact I believe that mine was actually the first positive post in the topic.
True, sorry angel, there were a few. I think Oiler as well.
Alright whatever, FPSs are undoubtedly better on the Wii? Oh okay, but even if I believed that (which I don't),what about the online portion of FPSs? And your point about Elebits is moot to me, in that I never said that the analogue controls offer all of the advantages.
Dvader's reply to my post in the GGD:
1. You can mix the two types of controllers I don't see what is the issue. Take a PS3 controller split it in half and add an IR sensor to one end, (you need to move some buttons around), but you don't lose buttons, you can still use two sticks if you want or usethe better IR aiming.
2.The game that shows this the most is RE4, its like a totally different experience with the wiimote. I don't look forward to having to go back to sticks with RE5.
3. Sorry that you cant aim with it but just cause you cant do it does not mean its not good, practice, learn it, I am sure it was the same way with sticks at first.
My Reply:
1. Did you miss what I stated about controllers that offer both? It doesn't work.
2. Exactly, you made my point for me. Why do you think I've played on consoles for this long, when the PC has always offered the most superior controls?
3. I shouldn't have to in order to play new console games.
You want to play games with motion controls, that is fine, as their are consoles that offer this option...I don't know want to and their are millions of other games that obviously feel the same way, but we wouldn't have an option if you had your way. That is unfair.
Edit: It doesn't like complex html.
Please note that I wrote my last post before many of your comments were posted, vader, so you did address a little bit of what I said.
I can attest that. Archangel's was the first favorable opinion over there.
Yeah rag also had a good point about the Wii-mote and how it shouldn't automatically be associated with the term "casual gaming". I also totally agree with that point as well.
Ah I understand that.
Not about the can't aim for **** comment though man you must be really bad. Advice I'd give is practice. Some games are easier to get into than others but generally it takes an hour or so to get synched up to wii FPS controls.
It just doesn't work when you have a controller that can do both , I get you, like the sixaxis you mean, it has to be shaped for IR like the wii control. Oh I see what you were saying.
I don't think it's silly to copy wii controls, but these companies are probably thinking more about business more than anything else and the success of the system is what is driving that.
I agree, many of the wii's best games aren't shooters but that's not because of the system, just the graphics obsessed FPS developers. Functionally when you are talking controls and aiming, the wii is the better option no doubt.
Not sure how I feel about the light gun comment. Nintendo has managed to factor in a lightfun functionality, capuring the immediacy, the tactfulness, the superior speed and aiming of a lightfun, with controls that can work in games other than light gun style games. In FPS too for instance. It's just easier and faster and more accurate and more fun to just plain aim in any game where you have to point and shoot. That even concerns simply navigating through menus. Smash bros is a great example, leaving out IR for the stage builder is stupid, elebits and boom blox create modes are great because of IR control.
HiRes.....when you quote someone, the need to click on the left side of the screen down a notch from where that person's paragraph ends. Otherwise, they blend in together and nobody can tell who said what.
As for MGS4, or Metal Gear in general; Well that's always been one series where they really go overboard on the whole "use every button on the controller" idea. I know many people that hate MGS controls because they seem overly complicated in ways that aren't nessessary. So MGS as it is now, yes, would be quite hard to do with the Wii controller. But I'm sure they could design the controls in a Metal Gear game to work well with it, if they wanted to.
However, that's why I say consoles going forward should offer BOTH a 360-style controller and a Wii-style controller. They both have their place.
That being said, I don't think we're even close to having Wii controls mastered. I think Nintendo could and should have added a few more buttons onto the controller and that would have went a long way to opening up the controller to more games. And I also think some developers are just using the controller in the wrong ways. Doing certain things with it just because they can, and not because they should.
GG, where is Yomi these days?
Nintendo patents new Wii controller - Is this part of Nintendo's strategy? Like release tons of innovative controllers in order to keep the Wii interesting? Hopefully they don't follow SEGA's lust in a perphial form.

Although I will admit that it wasn't perhaps explained and detailed as dvader's. It was mostly just an 'I like the idea' kind of post. I absolutely loved some of things that were done with it in Galaxy but outside of that game my experience with it is still pretty limited. I did find most things in Zelda TP easier to do because of the Wii-mote functionality but I still need to try a bunch of other various games such as RE4 and RE Umbrella Chronicles to get a better feel for more of it.
I think all game consoles should go back to this:
Was ymi and yomi the same guy? Mind blown.
I'm confused as to what the Wii controller has to do with online in a shooter being good or bad? I would love to be able to play online Halo 3 and COD4 with the Wii controller personally.
Here is my crazy concept art for a controller mixing of the two.
http://i34.tinypic.com/314rm6b.jpg
Zoom in a bit. Anyway its basically a PS controller split in half. The IR sensor is where the R2 button would be, the R2 button is now a trigger like the B button on the wiimote. For symmetry you can have L2 down there as well. You will probably have to reshape the handles a bit to allow better grip with one hand. If you'd like you can snap the two halves together for that classic controller style.
Captain Rainbow seems to me like it is being marketed for homosexuals. Its called Captain Rainbow. It has Birdo which is a known cross dresser. Kind of odd.
