Boksu ni nan desuka?
Fu-fu-fu-fu-fu!!!
I have been playing:
Really great RPG. Not quite on the level of Lost Odyssey on the whole, but it has some great things going for it such as a great art style, great cast, and a pacing almost unheard of in an RPG. The combat system is as good as it is faulty. The fast paced nature of it can be great, but it also feels like it could have been better with some deeper mechanics somehow. Its almost done, I'd love to either see a sequel or a new Mistwalker RPG altogether on the Wii U that builds on this game.
Haven't put a ton of time into it, but what I have has me liking it quite a bit. The pace seems good, the game is funny and puts a smile on your face the whole time you play it, and altogether feels like one of the better open world games in awhile.
I picked up the PS3 version and with all the talk of GTA 5, started a new playthrough. The game's charm is as solid as it ever was, though I was surprised just how unimpressive it looks these days. It looks so muddy visually...back in the day I didn't notice too much. Still, there's just something about the atmosphere in this series..nobody does it better.
I've been playing Cursed Mountain and The Walking Dead, and both are currently fighting for the mantle of most relaxing, least horrifying horror game ever. I want to give it to The Walking Dead because it's literally just a soap opera with zombies, but I really can't go passed a game with pretty intense waggle that still manages to somehow come across as relaxing.
And Odin Sphere. I'm still not entirely sure how they're going to keep his battle system going for however ridiculously long the game is, but right now I could not be enjoying it any more.
If you're playing it on computer, then yes it's a video game. If you're playing it with cards, then yes it's a card game. We don't have a kind of video game. Our tastes are pretty damn varied.
I'm near the end of Sleeping Dogs and Bowser's Inside Story. Both are great, but BIS can get annoying with silly mini games. Sleeping Dogs is nice, probably one of the top five best looking games this gen.
the GTA trailers whet my appetite so I also rebought GTA 4. Like Edge said, it hasn't aged well visually, especially after playing Sleeping Dogs.
4am sunday your time.
4am Sunday his time a few weeks ago.
It has nothing to do with taste, it has to do with making a distinction between something that is a card game, a board game or a video game. But i guess you guys feel the second anything enters a screen and a person can interact with it, it is a video game.
Been chipping away at Dark Souls. I finished the hideous Izalith part and also the Catacombs, now the game gets serious. I'm starting the Tomb of the Giants, second-to-last area of the game.
Vader, I'd say it depends on if the experience is changed by being made digital.
For example, I can't play Magic the Gathering or Monopoly by myself (enjoyably) in the physical world but the digital versions, which include AI player does allow for that.
Solitaire though? You may have a point with that.
That is exactly my argument. If it includes some aspect of computer AI to play against it absolutely qualifies as a video game. But those card games or board games without one are not, they are simply digitzied recreations of a board so you can play with another person who is not physically in front of you. it offers absolutely NOTHING outside of being a digital recreation of a physical game.
To me there is a difference between say a chess video game like Chessmaster
You see that it has computer AI controlled players. It has menus with options. it has all sorts of things an actual board of chess does not.
Now that is different to simply a digital version of chess like Yahoo Chess.
http://games.yahoo.com/board/
Where I can ONLY play with another person. There is nothing else, its just chess that allows you to play online rather than in person. Yahoo Chess is a board game. Chessmaster is a video game.
"And I don't mean it in a literal sense, I mean is it a video game as in the games we play, would you classify it as our kind of video game."
That statement is entirely about taste. You are making the distinction based on taste: "games we play"; "our kind of video game". How can that statement be taken any other way?
But let's assume that it's somehow not about taste: I've played Solitaire on PC before. You've probably played Solitaire on PC. Together we form we and our. Therefore it is a video game.
Not on taste, on mechanics. On a definition of what makes a video game a video game. I don't like it when every single thing on the planet that can be interacted with on a screen is considered a video game, that is poor characterization of the medium. The video game industry and its games is different than the board game industry. There is some cross over of course but just cause your board game or card game is on a computer doesn't make it a video game.
Oh damn. RUN. JUST RUN.
I answered your question as it was written. I defined video games as you described them in your question.
Ok Foolz your move.
Oh wait did I just create a video game?! I am a game creator now. By your definition I am.
Incorrect. By your definition I am.
Your turn.
But solitare is a card game not a video game so I played a card game on a computer screen. You played a card game on a computer screen. Neither of us in that situation played a video game.
What?
You are stating anything on a computer screen that can be classified as a game is a video game. Correct? So there you go. Tic Tac Toe on your computer screen. A video game.
I am stating that the definition in your question results in the definition either being completely useless, or Solitaire being a video game because we've both played it.
Now stop complaining and make your next move.
Go.
