Yeah it does, it has six channel PCM linear output through HDMI. Plus it has additional audio channels for the gamepad so it actually has like 8 channels of sound, more than other consoles.
Don't you just use a cable from your TV to your sound system to use it? It's a multi AV out port.
Or I guess there will be cables with optional co-axial or optical cable extensions like for my 360. It's just a video cable from the 360 to the TV but it has a port to hook up an optical cable too.
I don't understand. So you have an external speaker system right? So it has to be on when you want 5 channel sound right? But when it's off you get normal sound from your TV right? Like on a dvd/bluray player?
Beyond Good & Evil 2 would be a great game for Nintendo to pick up like they did with Bayonetta 2.
Platinum games is a bit different than hiring and licencing an Ubisoft internal team. I would love it if they did but it wont happen. IMO Nintendo should have acquired some smaller teams like the HOTD Overkill team to make hilarious FPS's and Eurocom to make great 1st/3rd person action games. They should have bought Arika by now and made ever more awesome Endless Ocean games. Maybe even CING considering that they published virtually all their big games.
Bugs.
We can all breath a sigh of relief as Fable The Journey could signal the end of road for Kinect in a core game setting. GG I would like the option of playing with the HTR off sometimes, but now because Wii U (WHICH DOES NOT HAVE dolby or DTS support) will be plugged in HTR directly which mean I can't just play with TV, like PS3,xbox360 both of those are direct into TV with Tos Link to HTR. Nintendo is halfassed. period.
This doesn't make any sense to me...they all use HDMI cables so what is the problem? DD or not, you're going to have sound coming out.
That's what I'm not understanding here, you will have the wii u connected to the TV via HDMI which carries sound to the TV. So even with the home theatre off you will get sound out of the TV speakers right?
My HDTVs have an audio out, coaxial or optical. So you just plug whatever you want into the TV and the audio out makes the 5.1 come out of the receiver when and only when you turn the home theatre on.
The fu...?
Believe it or not, you're looking at the entire Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale cast as they appear in a Super Smash Bros. Brawl mod.
Oh I will have sound I would just prefer to have DD OR DTS passed through my TV like with PS3 and 360 I will still get pro logic 2 that way with Wii U but DTS or DD would be much better it just is not really that hard to understand. I like to plug my systems directly into the TV avoiding another input device that could cause problems. My HTR Yamaha from 2005 might have issues with the video handshake HDCP its only HDMI 1.1 where as Wii U 1.4 HDMI In general is a cluster fuck. Its made for movies to keep people from pirating. I like separate Audio and video still where do the video from HDMI audio from optical. I just think Nintendo does not think these things ou. Understand now?
Guys PCM does not pass through optical, so to get surround I will need to plug into the HTR directly with Wii U which still might not work because of the well documented issues with HDMI And home theater systems not syncing up correctly.
Either way it's not going to keep me from playing, but it does remind how annoying Nintendo can be. They are not supporting DD OR DTS. Which means only surround 5.1 through PCM which only goes over HDMI and not optical.
My HDTV won't pass DD/DTS from an HDMI source via its optical out; it downgrades that signal to 2-channel PCM, which my reciever reads as ProLogic II or just stereo sound.
Sounds like you have a quirky setup.
I'm sure someone will release an audio/video cable that would deal with this issue. You must have your TV passing sound through to the home cinema system right? So shouldn't the home theatre just pick it up? You're saying that your TV won't route 5.1 or DTS to your home theatre through optical? Could you use a coaxial cable or a optical to coaxial converter? They do exist and are fairly cheap.
No I'm saying TV does pass those standards Nintendo's console does Not support either it only supports uncompressed PCM which cannot be passed over coax or Toslink. It's Nintendo thats the point, they don't want to pay the license fees for DD and DTS thats the problem. My setup is very ordinary.
Guess I will figure it out but it makes thing more difficult which seems to be Nintendo's biggest problem over the last 10 years, they make things more complicated, convoluted, difficult than anyone else and with the network setup and chat issues I'm hearing about they may just be shooting themselfs in the foot yet again. I'm not liking things so far on these fronts either.
Ah I see the problem now.
Nope I was wrong, see lower post.
Just want to say again MY TV does pass DD and DTS thats how I have my PS3 and 360 hooked up. The problem once again Nintendo Wii U does not output Dolby Digital or DTS thats the problem.
Yeah, Nintendo doesn't support those formats at all, which is just stupid.
So reading more here's the rub:
Wii U Audio Output
Uses six-channel PCM linear output via HDMI port, or analogue output via the AV Multi Out connector.
So you need an HDMI input on your receiver for digital sound otherwise it's DPL2.
Uncompressed 6-Channel PCM is the optimum for quality, but many AV receivers that are a bit older don't support the standard. So it's like they are supporting the current and future standard but forgetting about those of us with old receivers. HDMI has higher bandwidth than optical so it can allow for uncompressed audio codecs like Dolby True HD, DTS-MA, and PCM.
Optical is legacy and outdated. HDMI is the current standard and required if you want uncompressed audio or 7.1 surround. So the Wii U sound output is actually very good but not for older home theatre systems.
From what I'm reading they are saying an adaptor cable can't and won't be sold. In order for the system to output multichannel audio through a toslink cable it would have to support some sort of compression format other than outputting PCM. The Wii U doesn't do that.
Found a converter but they are not cheap
This unique HDMI distribution amplifier will directly pass HDMI and convert HDMI audio to Optical 5.1 Digital Audio Optical and L/R Stereo audio.
One ;last thing PCM will never be the standard, movies USE DTS , Dolby Master HD So don't excuse Nintendo from buying the license pleasePCM is the cheapest way to go thats why they are using. It's been proven that people Audiophiles can not tell the Difference between DTS DDor PCM when put in listening rooms and played the same bits with each format. Nintendo cheaped the fuck out period.
