Also, really thinking about picking up House of the Dead Overkill. Never played it yet.
Is it worth it? How long is the game? How many playable characters are there?
I kind of want it.

I agree with you. Remember when Nintendo released the Zelda collection all in one game, for free?
It is definately worth it. I don't know how many unlocakables, but it's the most fun I've ever had with a "light gun" game (at least since Hogan's Alley). It's also hilarious in places.
It's a take on the grindhouse aesthetic. It has a lot of swearing, not sure if that is a concern for you (I know it was for someone around here). It's about 6 hours if you play co-op, probably add an hour and a half if played by yourself. Because it's a "light-gun" game you really don't want much longer than that.
Yeah. But better than Square-Enix charging $40 for Chrono Trigger on the DS.

Thanks for the info.
I can get by with the swearing. I mean, I won't be able to play 97% of all the games today if I couldn't!
I think I'll snag it if I can find it.

I would say get House of the Dead 2 & 3 (maybe Ghost Squad too). 2 might be too ugly these days but it's worth playing through in my opinion. Sure, they don't have the purposefully bad script/dialogue and over the top swearing but it's still a dodgy horror movie type deal. It's funny that they actually made that shit trying to be serious, Resident Evil style but oh so much worse. The actual games are better than Overkill, imo. No frame rate issues, no dodgy scoring/money system that punishes you for doing *too good* in the first few tries, and it will test your trigger finger and aiming skill if you calibrate it right, get a good lightgun shell, and disable the crosshair.
I recommend the Overkill gun shell (I'm pretty sure it can be purchased separately from the game too) if you only play in short bursts but if you intend to play longer it's way too front-heavy as the whole remote extends beyond the handle. A shell that actually has it sit above the handle area, at least partially, will be more comfortable I think, as long as it's a good shell of course. I've heard good things about the Perfect Shot but I've never used one.
But you should play it in short bursts anyway and play for high scores in each difficulty rather than simply to beat it, which happens pretty fast for such arcade style games as you don't need coins for continues and can change the difficulty instead of be at the mercy of the arcade owner who tends to set everything at the toughest difficulty (if there even is a setting to begin with) to keep people pumping coins. Even Overkill with its unlockables and shit won't last you long if you just play games to complete them. Try and force yourself to not abuse continues and maybe also don't start on easier difficulties or you'll get bored of them fast. Just try to recreate the arcade experience at home, limiting how long you could play and how many times you could continue, but also every time trying to do better then the last and finally reach the end. If you want more meat to your gameplay then maybe you should look into Sin & Punishment 2 instead, as it's not a lightgun game but a somewhat deeper shooter.

Just finished my 1,113th game today. In case anyone was keeping track!
Took a break from the 360 slaughter-fest to beat a Wii game.
What to play next?
Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom?
Vanquish?
Enslaved?
GoldenEye 007?
Deadly Premonition?
Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition?
Alan Wake...?
Hmmm... Gonna have to give this one some serious thought!
Here's my current standing on Beaten Games on The Backloggery.
How, pray tell, does one Complete more games than they Beat, Mr. Prismatico? Something seems amiss!
Oh! Who's that 16 spots below me?
Vader!
In't that cute! 520 games!
Keep it up little guy!
If the last game was challenging, I'd go with Enslaved or Deadly Premonition. I know the later is a nice easy form of interactive story-telling, and I've heard the same about the first. Please do play DP before Alan Wake, DP does what Alan Wake tries to do (so I've read) and fails.
RE4 Wii would be a nice bit of comfort food.
Vanquish would be a nice quickie.
Well, it's a radio button selection on backloggery, so you can't pick both options.
I respectfully disagree. I was a bit let-down with the compilation compared to the source material. I felt that the change from the original light guns to the wii-mote was not as seamless as I thought it would be, whereas Overkill was made specifically for the Wii. Certainly a good purchase if you have not had a chance to play them on the DC or XB.
The last game was Epic Mickey. Don't even know what I am in the mood for.
Halo: Reach is currently in my 360, but I don't know if I want to play a shooter right now.
Hmmm...
Made up my mind!
Watch for the change in the Backloggery Tag!
Coming soon!
Reach. Can't really go wrong with an FPS.
Oh and by the way... before you start DP (whenever that is) make a point to talk to me, I've got some advice that will make your playthrough a lot more enjoyable.

Tell me to get back to rewriting this site so it's not horrible on mobileMajin and the Forsaken Kingdom it is!
Nothing quite like a colorful, lighthearted adventure game after just finishing up a colorful, lighthearted adventure game!
I am the Neutral Evil Guy. I think Yoda would be Lawful Evil.
...
Iga is Chaotic Evil.... RUNS AWAY...
I thought you went with Reach? I'll have to look up what this Majin thing is all about.
I'll disagree since using a lightgun shell and turning off the crosshair it's practically the same experience. Minus potentially fancier arcade guns. 2's guns were plain Virtua Cop style I think, but 3 used a freaking pump action shotgun. Still, you only see the model when reloading, and with both games in the bundle you use a variety of weapons so a nondescript shell is fine. Overkill is supposedly and in theory best played with a shell as well and has plenty weapon types viewable during reload anyway. It lets you turn off the crosshair too, but in my experience the calibration is much better in 2 & 3. To get it close to that in Overkill you have to experiment aiming further toward the corners than it tells you to until you hit the right spot, otherwise it will be off. The frame rate and hitches made me revert to enabling the crosshair anyway, and hold the remote with two hands in my hip or gut like a shotgun instead of use the shell (if I had the zapper perhaps I would have used that instead), something I never wanted to do in 2 & 3 or Ghost Squad where my only issue was how front heavy the Overkill shell is.
