It also doesn't help that reportedly (and I'm saying this having barely watched the show) they make a lot of really unnecessary storyline changes, characters mispronounce other characters names and have completely different personalities from the show and a bunch more that I can't really say unless I want to specifically spoil the movie.
The fact that people are saying (and reviewing worse) that this is WORSE THAN TWILIGHT just astounds me.
I suppose the entire film is the M. Night TWEEEEEST that he's so proud of, since apparently this movie doesn't have one.

I am wowed by Red Dead, its a monster hit. I didn't think it could reach those levels. Nice to see people take notice of a game that gets excellent reviews and a dev with a proven track record. I thought Galaxy 2 would do much better but it will have better legs than any game on this list. UFC did far worse this year than last year. Alan Wake is sub 200k, yikes.
Hardware has no surprises except PSP which has to be concidered dead at this point. It may get a tiny jolt next month with MGS but still, its flatlining. From gaf, some games that came out in May that are not on the list:
Iron Man 2
Lost Planet 2
Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands
Split/Second
Backbreaker
Blur
ModNation Racers
UFC 2009 First month
4. UFC Undisputed (360) – 679.6K
5. UFC Undisputed (PS3) – 334.4K
UFC 2010 First month
4. UFC 2010 Undisputed (360) – 221.1K
5. UFC 2010 Undisputed (PS3) – 192.3K
Woah.
I read that Shadowrun sold more than Alan Wake in its first month.
SMG1 sold 1.3 million its first month but it was in Nov. At E3 Nintendo said Galaxy 2 sold 900k in the US.
I wonder if he will say hi. I keep seeing new members down at the bottom but they don't say anything.
And the lack of any of the THREE racers released is just sad.
PSP sales are beyond sad. It's like watching a dying animal on the sideway still gasping for breath.
LP2? Disappointing.
HW sales are boring this month.
And I knew Split Second and Blur would flop. Kind of funny how Activision made fun of Mario Kart in that Blur commercial but nobody bought it!
But Lost Planet 2 flopping is disappointing, not surprising though. The first one did really good too but that's probably because the we weren't over-saturated with shooters at that time.
And I'm glad Iron Man 2 isn't there. Cheap, half-baked movie tie-in games should die!

Sony expected the LBP crowd to jump onto it I guess. I hear its a good game, the LBP aspect makes it more appealing to me than the other two racers.
Despite the predictions of numerous analysts who predicted the U.S. video game industry would see at least modest sales growth in May, data from tracking firm NPD pegs the retail console business as down 5 percent year-over-year in May to $823.5 million.
Hardware took a big hit, with revenues falling to $241.5 million, a considerable 20 percent decline compared to last May. Software, which was expected to be May's strong point on the back of Red Dead Redemption and Super Mario Galaxy 2, was only up 4 percent to $466.3 million, with accessory revenue up 3 percent to $115.7 million.
Those new results put the industry down 10 percent on a year-to-date basis compared to 2009, with $5.56 billion in total earnings so far, with hardware down 20 percent and software down 6 percent.
Of course, everything is relative, as NPD analyst Anita Frazier points out. "Although down this month, May sales reflect the third best-selling May on record after May '08 and May '09," she wrote in a research note -- although this May's 5 percent decline comes after May 2009 had already seen its revenue drop 23 percent from $1.12 billion in 2008.
As far as platform comparisons, Frazier also noted that the Xbox 360 platform, including software and hardware overall, "contributed the greatest share of revenue to industry sales for the month, and year-to-date." Meanwhile, the PlayStation 3 platform has seen the most improvement on a year-to-date basis.
I guess online and multiplayer and gaming with friends is really just a better experience.

MS did great this gen with the 360, by the general public it is the gamer system. It does have an excellent library as well and the shooters which is the main genre right now is better on 360. Personally I think PS3 is better but whatever.
Wat. Are we talking about the same Xbox Live crowd? Better experience than what? Getting bit in the nutsack by ravenous wildebeests?
It's surprising that a lot of people that I know who play Live are mostly casual fans. All they play is Modern Warfare 2. That's it, nothing else. Or Madden.
It's what their friends play so that's what they'll buy.
I have one guy on my friend's list and he's on every freaking day. But all he plays is MW2. He plays nothing else. I expect 70% of people who buy 360's is in that crowd.

All my cousins had a 360 and wanted me to join them in Call of Duty. Yup, Call of Duty. So I finally caved in and got a 360. I wanted a PS3 of course because I was afraid of the RRoD'ing. I'm always paranoid with systems I buy so it took some hard convincing for me to get a 360.
But I'm still glad I chose the 360. I got a lot out of it.

That is happening a lot with the 360. The XBLA created a social network where people dont want to feel left out. It worked great for MS.
I probably would've gotten the PS3 over the 360 but my cousins wanted me to get what they were playing and join them. Plus, I think the PS3 was still $400-500 at the time and the 360 just had the $299 price drop.
And I don't think it's the gamers system at all. I think the PS3 is the true gamer system. But you're right about the shooters. And Madden and FIFA.
Halo and Modern Warfare 2 are monsters.

And I did play the PS3 Slim online at my cousins house.
Even though it's free, I do honestly think Live feels more comfortable and convenient where average gamers can join in and know what's going on. Sony just feels very complex to me and not as polished.
That's the experience I got from it.

Holy shit! Rock on Red Dead Redemption. Awesome game. I'm very disappointed that Alan Wake didn't do much better because playing it right this game is great. Gorgeous graphics and solid gameplay top off a very compelling game. I only rented it but I'm really wishing I just bought it instead. I'm also disappointed in Lost Planet 2's sales. The first game was great.
